So impressed that i have 2! an 08 and 06, 1 tooth less front sprocket, LED's all three headlights to save battery power, ive had over 80 bikes and these are the most versatile ive ever owned, both handle better than anything ive ridden and smooth, just keep it in the high revs to get the 600cc style power from it, i am 6ft 3 and 280 pound and i can haul ass on these machines all day. With regards to the Sprag clutch, keep your battery maintained is key, if not using for a few days and you live in a pretty cold country then an optimiser is the way to go. only thing i have had go on mine was one of the Headlight relays which prevented it from starting. make sure you check for the concentric hub not being seized as some owners neglect to service these, if you are pretty confident with spannering then there are plenty of how to's out on the web. All in all an amazing bike, test ride one in all conditions of roads, make sure you set the suspension up first and you will not be disappointed...

Thanks for the chime - I agree - I believe I have found a keeper. My current one (third in line, and second silver) has only 14k miles so I will definitely keep for the long haul. Careful though - I noticed the sub-frame cross bar, the top one, is very fragile - the OEM top case claims a 13lb capacity (which for a 34 liter case is too light) and I think they actually mean 13lb! The dealer doesn't have a replacement sub-frame anymore so it's a problem now.

I have just bought a 2010 ST; 24k, black and in beautiful condition.....all for £1850! One of the best looking standard bikes ever; single sided, and that triple sound track is awesome. I own the first spec Sprint ST 1050 (‘05-‘06) the one that was more sport than touring (lower clip-on handlebars, lower windscreen), already with ABS, in Caspian blue. It’s getting old now, but still beautiful to look at and exciting to ride. I live in Italy close to the Como lake (you know Bellagio etc etc.) and the bike is a dream for a day joyride around the lake or the mountains nearby. No problems either if you need to ride 100 or 200 miles of highway to reach the sea, veeery capable piece of kit, but NOT “a clever bike” like for example a dull CB1000F or a VStrom (🤢). I’ve just tweaked it over time with slightly shorter gears and a full suspension upgrade (1000$ worth of upgrade, nothing too sophisticated). No reliability issues, and tons of fun. It can become a little (big) hooligan if you want her to. I still loooooove her!!!

That's a good question, considering they were one of the best looking bikes in that class. Right now I'm riding the competitor Honda VFR 800 in pearl white with all luggage but I still think the Sprint ST takes the Cake. The other curious Factor might have been the fact that at the same time triumph was selling the very similar Sprint gt. This means these bikes were competitors against each other. Thanks for watching, and please run through my list of sport touring motorcycles in this class with matching luggage and a single-sided swing arm. I've had them all and reviewed nearly all.
@MacBob
@MacBob Жыл бұрын
Have owned an 09 from new. Traded an 01 pre-VTEC VFR 800 for it. It's a great bike but does have its flaws. Definitely less sporting than the VFR and although the same weight on paper, it carries that weight higher up so is noticeable at low speed. Headlights are utter rubbish. I would go as far as saying they are unsafe for night rides on twisty roads due to the beam cut off. High beam is a waste of time. I've solved that on mine by swapping to the later Sprint GT headlights and nose fairing. A straight swap so worth looking at if you regularly ride at night Standard seat was poor for me. 150 miles and I was seriously uncomfortable. Swapping to a Triumph gel seat sorted that and I can now do 500 mile days with no issues. I would say that the finish has lasted better than my VFR as even after nearly 14 years, it still looks pretty fresh. On balance, if I had the option of multiple bikes then I'd have kept the VFR and added a Speed Triple to the stable but I needed a single bike that could do everything and this fits that requirement

Thanks so much for chiming in. I'm very curious how the gt differs from the st. I think these are still the best looking sport tourers on the used market. I cant see lugging around an emergency starting battery gismo on a motorcycle. Better IMHO to simply replace the bike's battery when the months are up ...I mean yes some lightweight jumper cables make sense along with a AAA card but there is just so little room and weight capacity that many things one might carry in a car or SUV become rather frivolous on a motorcycle....besides those battery starters? ARE a battery so you have to replace THEM routinely also even if you went a few years and never needed it...which is highly likley...the great thing is you can jump a bike off any vehicle really so yeah...jumper cables
@pegasusmotorcycletours
@pegasusmotorcycletours Жыл бұрын
I agree that it's a hassle but it's also a peace of mind. It can jump the battery supposedly more than 20 times before needing a charge. Has emergency lighting and can charge other electronics. In my solo adv touring i was rarely in towns that would have my needed battery, and I was typically isolated and alone so jumping from another vehicle is not an option always. I know how to run jump start the bike but that too is easier said than done. And actually, I've helped more people with the tool, and more bikers, than I've ever needed to help myself. So there's that as well. Jumper cables take as much space and weight and are only useful if there's another car around. Tha ks for watching and participating in the conversation.

Good catch. Ps, my latest review was of the Honda vfr800, my favorite bike in this same class. Cheers. Salon, yesterday I filmed the review WOF my 1996 Triumph Daytona 1200, a rare bike, so please stay tuned. Nik.

I have one and it's the perfect bike except that the seat gets hot from the exhaust. I think this may be due to the fact that I use a gel seat but anyhow it's the only thing I don't like about the machine

Hi Alex - Welcome to the channel. I regret you feel this review was not helpful - what other info would you have liked to see so that I can incorporate in the next sport touring bikes I review. PS - check out the BMW K1200S review released a few weeks ago - that's the latest review I this sport touring class - I plan to review the other bikes in the class as well such as VFR800 and the Aprilia Futura. I spend so much time on the luggage cause I believe the luggage to be the most important factor for sport touring bikes - (otherwise folks would just get sport bikes and slap aftermarket bags on them) and for me luggage can be a deal breaker. So it really is that important to provide a detailed analysis of the luggage - the K1200S review, however, focuses less on this so I think you'll enjoy it more. In fact one review just wrote that the video made him buy one 3 days ago even though he never even planned to, and even though he has a full garage. I hope you enjoy it and please do let me know if you think that review is improved - thanks for your comments and welcome to the channel and community. Nik

Part of the whole idea of touring motorcycles is the ability to carry luggage. This is all useful info, I don't understand your problem. Go watch another video about the Sprint, there's plenty of them

@@mrffromzh8636 Thanks for the constructive criticism. I really appreciate it - it's the only way to improve the videos. I go into so much detail about the bags because one of the strongest factors that makes these sport touring bikes appealing is their ability to carry luggage - so luggage is a really important factor for me as well - I always look for bikes with OEM Luggage- thanks again - point taken.
