A very interesting creation from Triumph - Tiger 900 GT in the Pro trim - is likely one of the most complete motorcycles in the mid-size adventure motorcycles segment. I'm sharing my honest thoughts about this bike after spending some time with it. What a fantastic motorcycle for... daddies!
All views are my own and are based on my personal experiences with the Tiger 900. Stay tuned and subscribe for next mid adventure bikes and comparisons on the channel!

I’ve been continuously riding bikes for Forty years and have owned all different types of models. I use my bikes for a combination of single rider and two-up leisure trips. I recently part exchanged my Tiger Sport 1050 for a Tiger 900 GT Pro. I am pleasantly surprised that the Tiger 900 outperforms my old bike on almost every metric. It has the torque of a large engine bike but can be flicked around a car park like a BMX. Riding larger adventure bikes can feal like balancing on top of a step ladder with a bag of cement on your shoulder. The onboard technology is awesome, and I find everything useable. My wife and I will be taking the motorcycle to Europe for our annual touring trip in July. I can’t wait to see how the bike performs.

Had mine for over two years (Tiger 900 GT Pro RED) and TSA (Quick Shifter) works perfect. My guess is on your test bike someone had adjusted the gear lever on the output shaft splines instead of using the screw adjusters to keep the same rotational torque on the foot lever.

That was a good review. I owned a Tiger 900 GT (not the Pro) and so have no experience of the quick-shift on the 900, but everything else, the lightness, performance and handling, I can absolutely attest to - it's a great bike. As a big guy, I upgraded to the latest 1200 to give me a better long-distance touring ability, but really, that 900 had 95% of everything I needed. Thanks again for another good video!

@@jerzygroclinek5066 I'm pretty much the same height (188cm), and the 900 was absolutely fine...not too small, the height was good for me. Thanks for sharing all that. I feel very much the same about the 95% of 1200's capabilities being there in the 900. As for the height, since Jerzy asked about that, there's always a taller seat available or a Rally version which would be taller as a whole.

The Tiger is a really great bike indeed. Although I just swapped my 900 GT Pro for a Street Triple RS (wanted something different for more exciting fun), it was a buttery smooth and very comfortable bike. The quickshifter and blipper worked great for me , although going from 1st to 2nd can be a bit clunky (which is the same on my 2022 Street Triple). Overall a great bike and maybe in the future I’ll own a Tiger again

The Road to Sport mode sharpens up the throttle but doesn't do anything to power. It means you get more rpm for less twist. It also swaps the rear suspension. I have rear suspension set fairly soft in Road mode and hard in Sport mode. Once I'm on a winding mountain road i swap to Sport and the difference is clear.

I agree with most of what you said. When I rode the same bike, I was amazed at how it instantly felt ‘just right’. I’m testing the 1200 and 900 again this week, but I think my heart is set on the 900. I didn’t really push the bike hard, so I didn’t have a problem with the quick shifter. I found the screen a little thin, but this is easily fixed with an after market screen. I really like the 1200, but the vibration at 130kph is just too much. I still have to test the new tracer 9GT +, but I think I’ve fallen in love with the Triumph Tiger 900. The white bike looks very nice and I think you overstate the problem with the lights. Just a new habit to get into. Great review V-Told. Cheers

Have to agree with you, I tried a 1200 Rally pro and it really vibed through the pegs, the 900 was alot smoother to me. I also tried a 2019 1200 XRT which I almost bought, until I tested a 900gt pro the next day. Bought the 900 when I got back from the test ride.

Hi Vtold. I test rode this bike and honestly I loved it but 2 things in the end put me off. The luggage doesn't come standard and when you do get the luggage one side is bigger than the other due to the exhaust. Looks really ugly. Also the oem tyres are not very good and triumph should of opted for fatter tyres. Ultimately I got the tracer9gt which has fatter tyres and luggage as standard with no scaffolding to hold them much neater
@VToldsMotoShow
@VToldsMotoShow Жыл бұрын
So it's the same story as with a Scrambler also due to exhaust's location. This would bother me mentally too but I personally only ride with a top case. Don't like side panniers at all unless it's a Honda gold Wing type of bike. @Chris, about the lights, yeah, it's just the same thing just done differently and in a more complicated way. It reminds me of what Apple has done to iPhone's Wi-Fi and Bluetooth that you cannot switch off in the quick-swipe menu but instead have to choose a 4x longer path of going to the settings, choosing WiFi or Bluetooth there and switching it off there. It ultimately does the job but takes so much more time and effort and annoys every single time. Same here with that switch I guess. Cheers!

@newbierider3553 I don't think you could go wrong with either the Tiger or the tracer. I went for the tiger. The main thing I liked was the electronic pre load and damping on the rear, also one thing I wasn't expecting was how the 19 inch front wheel on the Tiger felt so stable on fast and slow corners. To be honest I probably would have been happy with the tracer but the extra suspension travel really suits our roads here in NZ

You didn't like the tires. What would you use for touring and maybe a little unpaved driving? Thank you for this. I bought the bike and am mostly happy - actually mostly thrilled. You've pointed out some weaknesses. Consumption is another. 20 liters is nice, but 100km takes at least five liters out of that. Also, use liberal amounts of locktite - I don't mind the vibrations, but screws will like to come loose on this bike. I replaced the screen with a Givi touring screen, and do little else but long for the season to start!

Good to see Triumph making some really good bikes. Another KZbinr done a test and didn't have a problem with the gearbox or the quickshifter he had it for a mouth. But the clutch was a bit far out. But a part from a few tiny issues he said that they got it nearly perfect especially over the older model. And a 10% boost in power and torque. Hopefully Triumph continues to make great bikes into the 21st century. But still enjoyable watching your review.

Unfortunately the quick shifter on the bike can be faulty, depending on the batch from the supplier. I bought my GT Pro in December 2020 and six months later it failed. It was intermittent for months before I talked Triumph into replacing it under warranty. Since then it's been perfect. On a Triumph forum I'm on there were a few other owners with the same fault. The quick shifter is not a Triumph part, it comes from a company that makes them for many bikes, and MotoGP bikes. They are a reputable company but failed with some batches that ended up on this bike.

It makes sense, however, I've been having mediocre experiences with other Triumphs, namely Tiger 1200 in two different examples. Let's hope they improve this part as soon as possible.

Got the GT pro now for two years. The quickshifter is a dream in any way and in all the rev range. I think that that bike has some serious transmission issues since you mentioned it engages at almost the end of the lever. My grabs at the start of the middle. If it's a press bike it could be a ton of mistreatment that results it.
@VToldsMotoShow
@VToldsMotoShow Жыл бұрын
I learned to believe that the demo/press bikes are usually maintained OK, so should represent the whole population pretty well. Other Tigers do the same to me, and this convinces me that it's just Triumph's technology or my left foot doesn't work well with the way that they need to be operated. On other bikes it gets along with my left foot or it also doesn't in some instances.

Amazing engine. Very comfortable for 6' 32" inseem rider. Fun punchy sound. Shift lever grabbed near far middle. Quick shifter worked well all gears up and down. Not the smoothest 1st to 2nd, but OK. Noticable change between rider modes. Front fork braking dive was controlled by putting more pre-load. I would buy it. Very impressed.

Still watching - but have a tiger 900 rally pro - and on the break and gear shifter you can fold in and rotate them and increase or decrease the height. That may help with your issue at 6:05. The front dive on the breaks - i find if you use the back break in conjunction with the front break it steadies the bike and you dont get as much front fork dive. Granted im riding the rally pro. The quickshifter - yeah i prefer to use the clutch, if i have to learn to use it while modifying throttle input to make it work smoothly i may as well just use the clutch. Agree with you on the clutch engagement point though.
@VToldsMotoShow
@VToldsMotoShow Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip on the levers. As for the dive, that's correct, the more "drag" you create using the rear brake, the flatter the bike will be due to different forces. I can only wonder for now what it's like in the Rally version. But I might jump on one this year to have a full perspective on the Tiger 900 range. Thanks for the useful input!

These are regular military pants that I put separate knee protectors underneath. Otherwise I'd definitely get proper pants also with a tailbone protection and definitely-definitely hips protectors installed in them as mine don't have that as my research not long ago has proven that there aren't really any hip protectors that make sense aside from additional "underpants" with them from Alpinestars that are constantly unavailable. Or there should also be specifically motorcycle pants with removable protectors all around - such would be amazing to have. If you look and find such, definitely do let me know too.

Hi V, which one of tiger 900 rally pro and 1200 gt pro, for commuting and road travelling? I tried the whole series of tiger 900 and 1200, and found that 900 engine is smother than 1200, while 1200 is much more powerful... My height falls in 900 rally and 1200 gt version. I had a dilemma of choosing one from the two... It seems that 900 is a more valuable choice than 1200, regarding the engine quality...

How tall are you ? Because I'm thinking about Tiger 900 GT, but I'm afraid if it's too small for my height (I'm 187 cm)

@@jerzygroclinek5066 I am 175cm, I feel ok with 850mm seat height on both bike. I am afraid that 900 gt is too small for you. 900rally actually has the similar shape with 1200 gt pro, looking from the front and side view. You can also handle tiger1200 rally pro, which might be the best choice for higher riders…but not me😭

I see that it's a tough choice and I admit that if I were able to put aside the appeal of a "top of the line" 1200, then I'd really struggle. However, I personally enjoy more explosive engine of a 1200 and prefer its suspension with amazing settings. It could be a more comfortable bike while not being much heavier or harder to manage around town. I feel I'd be ready to pay for that and to satisfy my ego with having the biggest Tiger in the family. I'm not really bothered much by 1200's vibration.

I personally would take the Tiger 900 GT over BMW F 850 GS unless I was about to go offroading, which I wouldn't be doing. For offroading I'd take a dirtbike, so in the end Triumph wins for me here pretty much in all aspects, especially the engine.

VStrom 1050 a better choice?
@VToldsMotoShow
@VToldsMotoShow Жыл бұрын
That would depend on a number of factors. I'd have to think long and hard but I feel that Tiger 900 is just a more complete package and I personally prefer its design a lot compared to a V-Strom 1050.

I purchased one a week ago and experienced significant heat on my knees from the radiator vent. I was 10 miles away from the dealership on the freeway when it started. I turned my knees out to the side in an unnatural riding position and the heat was gone. I confirmed after viewing KZbin reviews from owners that it wasn't just me. I returned the bike....at significant loss of course. Exquisite bike otherwise but ultimately unrideable in my view.

Thanks for letting us know. It makes me wonder as usually when I'm riding these bikes and pushing them, they do give up and start heating up significantly but I haven't noticed it with this Tiger 900. I'd like to know whether it's certain units affected or it's all Tigers that in some conditions present such an issue.

I found the heat is only a problem in hot summer weather and in traffic. Over 80 kph it's not a problem. There are inserts that fit into the gap to deflect the hot air out sideways. I think they come from Italy. A friend of mine has made up plastic deflectors and put them in with velcro.

4 major deal breakers you have brought to our attention: 1-Slow processing power for the display-takes forever to come in 2-Poor quick shifter 3-Windscreen or some other aerodynamic flaw which causes dirt etc to enter the helmet from below-can he very bad for eye health 4-Non intuitive headlight flasher button-can be a serious safety hazard After all these points you have highlighted, I couldn't possibly consider this bike.
@julianperry5141

1. It's not that bad, turn it on, by the time you put your gloves on its ready to go. 2. The quick shifter is excellent. 3. The stock screen is better than most, I haven't felt the need to change it. 4. The full beam switch is easy to use and not a problem. Let's face it, you don't want to consider this bike probably because you don't want to consider it.

I have the rally pro for two years and i agree that the quickshifter is one of the best. Works every time at every rpm range with no abruptness.
@VToldsMotoShow
@VToldsMotoShow Жыл бұрын
Yeah, Triumph needs to work on the display processing power or whatever this thing is doing in the background. Same with the quickshifter. I think that aerodynamics can be totally changed with a different windshield though as it impacts the air almost everywhere around the bike. So this one is not lost yet! Cheers!

what do you think,is this bike worth the extra money compared the new transalp?and second question...is there so much heat engine that can become really annoying to the summer?
@VToldsMotoShow
@VToldsMotoShow Жыл бұрын
There are many factors to consider in the comparison with a Transalp. It depends on which areas are the most important. I'll be likely making a comparison video between these two somewhere in the future. The heat topic - I don't remember but if I haven't mentioned it in a video, then all is fine.
