I noticed the leather strap on the glovebox. I assume it is to open the glove box.. This is not necessary on the TR6 since the glove box normally pops open. For this however the a rubber stop has to be fitted (Rimmer partnr. 613863) on the bracket in the upper left corner of the glove box (see video at 6.33). I made it myself from some rubber. The box then closes with light pressure after some bending of the bracket. The rubber pushes the box open when you press the lock. It also avoids rattling of the glove box lid. Works perfectly !

Yes it's not a factory fit just a handy idea for both opening it as they don't exactly open easy and yes stop that little rattle. Be nice if it was a triumph strap. Simple ideas always work best

Well the bump stop defintely will help sincde the rubber both fixes the lid from rattling and pushes the lid open as soon as you press the lock !@@planet6parts

Great video thanks! It's ironic that you have "Ring of Fire" playing in the background as you're fiddling with Lucas Electrics wiring! ;)

I just had music on, but yes, it's a little ironic lol. 👍

I have a 1970 gt6 plus that I am trying to restore. For dash removal, I don't know if all the wires hooked up to the gauges work. How would I install the new wires? Is there a wiring harness I need to buy to replace the original for the dash? Thank you so much for the video. The TR6 looks like it has almost the exact same dash.
@planet6parts Жыл бұрын
The wiring harness is not just the dash buy the entire car. Before replacing start small. Bench test the gauges first, clean and repair any damaged wire and ends. DownloD the wiring diagram and test. Do what you can before you throw big money at it however after 50 years a new harness is not a bad investment.

Great video. Is it possible to unsrew the dash and lean it towards you to disconnect everything and then vice versa reinstalling?
@planet6parts9 ай бұрын
Hi, Unfortunately you have to disconnect both tach and speed and glove gox regardless as both of them pull the dash to the metal plate behind it

Been in the back of my mind to tackle this job. My heater and one crash pad needs replacing so the dash needs to come off. One question, and you did reference it. How to avoid oil spraying out of the oil gauge line?
@planet6parts2 жыл бұрын
Yes make sure the engine is cold and you should be fine, however if you want to 100% sure disconnect it from the engine block. If it's going to bleed it will just drip in the engine bay. I hope this helps. John

My question deals with lubricating the tach and speedometer cables. Can that be accomplished from the dash side of the speedometer cable specifically. The tach cable is rather easy from the engine compartment.
@planet6parts Жыл бұрын
Hi, my recommendation for lubricating the cables is to remove it from the sleeve completely. This means disconnect both ends as its important to know its both clean inside and that it's connected back in properly. It's a hood time to check for wear or debris.

my padded dash has a couple cracks , i was thinking of replacing it - ive heard the wind shield need to be remove , have you ever replaced the padded dash? looking forward to the new dash and updated gauges and led lights - thanks
@planet6parts2 жыл бұрын
Hi, to replace dash pad the Windshield frame must come off. I will be removing one in the next day or two so will upload that video. Side pads have a metal tab that wraps around the metal but give me a few days and I will do a video for you. John

How do you replace the ignition switch on a 1972 TR6?
@planet6parts Жыл бұрын
Hi, the switch in the barrel?. The switch itself is very simple, and I will do a video for the. The barrel requires a lot more, but let me do a video on it for you. John

Looks easy when people edit videos to make it seem easy. But sometimes you get lucky.
