Came here to say the same thing, was super early in the day but it blew the theoretical roof off the place! I nearly got knocked out in one of the circle pits off to the right facing the stage and got ragged to my feet by a couple of blokes who ended up hanging with for most of the weekend. That whole festival was a banger!

According to Matt Heafy in an interview, the whole band snorted a lot of blow and smoked a lot of weed the night before this show, and were completely out of their minds when they played this show.

Just read, on Wiki, and would have to agree: "In 2005, Trivium played the first Saturday set on the main stage at Download Festival in Castle Donington, England. This performance is widely accepted as the best Trivium gig to date. It is credited by Matt Heafy as the gig that really launched Trivium on the world stage." Oh yeeaaahh. 11am in the morning, hungover as fuck and it sounded fucking brilliant =D

I remember going to this as a 19 hear old with one of my friends. We got insanely fucked up on beer, salvia and mushrooms the night before and thought we were in some sort of afterlife when this insanity greeted us at 11.30 am. It was amazing 😍

This has gone down as pone of the legendary download performances, I was there and I can tell you for a new band at the time they blew everyone away after this they were loved in the UK

I missed them much to my disgust. Got too wrecked the night before and I didn't really know them anyway. Was disgusted when I saw the TV highlights and saw how good they were.

leviathon18 thats coz something happened to him that almost damaged his vocal cords. In order to maintain trivium, matt had to rehabilitate his voice and almost had to relearn the screams in a way that wouldnt cause permanent damage. Hence why The Crusade album had no screams. He came back to the screams by the time Shogun rolled in.

Yeah but to be fair they are alot more refined now, his singing is tons better, as good as this energy is, in the early days he wasn't really able to nail the singing live like he could on the record

The Ascendancy days will be missed. They've been playing some of those songs at mayhem. They played Pull harder at mayhem this year and they also played Rain and dying in your arms... and to my surprise matt screamed... crazy shit

Looking back at this again today. I was sat on the hill to the left of the stage. I wish I had run down and got in the pit. It was still one of the greatest sets from a band at a festival I have ever seen. Even then I knew this would be historic.

Haha you can hell tell he was either really drunk or high for this. Not only did he barely sing the choruses but it sounded like matt's guitar was turned down a fair bit. Still an amazing musician in my opinion though. When i saw trivium at soundwave 2010 it was one of the best live performances i've ever seen

Yeah, I heard Matt in the new album will scream some. He says "When I first started screaming I really couldn't scream until I finally hit it" meaning he found a way to scream well not scream but kind of a growlish I guess to keep his voice sounding dark like he did in Ascendency. Think about it, Matt was bound to lose his voice screaming non-stop shows like that.
