LYRICS
With my hands around your throat
That's the way I like you most
When you're choking on the
Feelings rushing out
I just want to hate
The same way that you hate
So that I don't feel this love
No more
I'm choking on the feelings
Rushing out
Time won't open up its wings
Let me fall from grace and land into the flames
I don't want to feel this love go cold
I don't know how you opened up this light before
I'm choking on the feelings rushing out
Wake
It's only getting worse
Wake
Behold this bitter curse
Wake
It's only getting worse
The end is nigh
Take it away
Every second of pain
Like a stake through the brain
Existence inhumane
Am I awake or dreaming?
Is this the life we're breeding?
Why stay alive when dying is much easier?
It's not gonna end the way you want
The end is nigh
We've wasted away every second and day
Trying to ascertain our dominion and faith
It's not gonna end the way you want
The end is nigh

Trivium has a way of creating an album that just grows on you the more you listen to it. This album, I admit didn't sit right with me, but the more I listened to it, the more I noticed little things, which just seem to be missing in modern day music. This is imo one of their best albums. It may not have all that death metal screaming, which I do miss, but the quality of this cd is off the charts.

i swear every trivium album i dont quite love at first but after i listen to it a few times i become absolutely obsessed with it. i think its because they are quite unique and your brain doesnt have a lot to reference when listening so its hard just to enjoy the first time. i have so much trouble coming up with what it think their best album is because whenever i listen to them again i realise how amazing they are and cant pick my favourite.

Trivium can write beautiful pieces. I love how Matt went through doing his screams to sounding like a deeper James Hetfield. Evolution at it's finest. This one will probably my favorite Trivium piece for a very long time.

To me, the fact that this band has so many people hating on their old and new sound both makes me feel that they are doing something right and have been all along. I cant stand a lot of music, but I do not feel the need to go to the artist's videos I don't care for and comment negatively on them. That would be a waste of what time I have left in this existence. I personally have loved this band from the start and their continued success is enough of a stab in the eye to hater for my satisfaction

I don't understand those complaining about Draiman's influence on this album. It's barely noticable. If nobody had told you that Draiman had a part in the making of this album you wouldn't even be complaining. Unless you're just looking for something to complain about, in which case, don't do it here. Trivium might actually listen to you. Nobody wants their next album to suck because a moody teenager felt like they had something to complain about.
@vivekphilipvarghese

Brad David Baker Nope that's not true. I actually didn't even know Draiman had anything to do with this album till I heard To Believe, I didn't even know who he was, but I did hear of Disturbed. While I was listening to that song, I kept thinking this is like a song I heard recently. And it did, sound so much like Stricken. And when I googled, that's when I learnt David Draiman basically wrote this album. It happened even with Incineration, Villainy Thrives, and this one. The only song that remotely sounds like Trivium's bad assery is Through Blood, Dirt and Bone. Even Strife which I like sounds too much like Disturbed's rhythm

Fk man, 10 years flew by like nothing. I remember seeing them at an open air festival with my dad, now my dad, which is no longer alive, and my then girlfriend, which I parted from after 15 years of being together. But what stays are some pictures and the memories, echoing through this music. I can distinctly remember some feelings I had back then, I thought where long forgotten, that is the power of music that resonates with you on an emotional level, it gets stored very deeply in your brain for a long, long time. My theory is that because Sound is a rather simple signal to work with compared to smell, sight, touching etc., it is easier for the brain to store this information long term and also much quicker to compare to things that you are currently hearing. This would make sense from an evolutionary standpoint as well, as hearing a sound of a predatory animal before it attacks or spots you can mean live or death. That's just a thesis on my end though, my observation, no scientific research, no papers that I read about it or anything.

***** If you have a look at the writing of Shogun, then at the writing of In Waves, I cannot see how anyone could say that In Waves is more "mature" unless their definition of mature is synonymous to formal, simple and uninspiring. I agree they haven't sold out and that the sound has to change over time though. Bottom line, VF kicks ass and it's a great thing they brought back their signature choruses that In Waves totally lacked.

I hope people don't take these lyrics too literally. this song is literally someone's downfall into antisocial depression. showing your feelings is a human thing that everyone does, and people that don't show it are afraid to in an ironic way. to avoid depression we need to feel like we have an effect on people and to find people to connect with. not through texting or facebook or anything digital. but real face to face bonding. Gotta make that your goal to find people that make you feel comfortable with who you are, or what you want to do or how you want to grow. sometimes you don't have those people in the beginning, but there are 5 million other people out there. Definitely. I really wish they make another Shogun/progressive album. Concept albums tend to be my favorite!

This song would have easily been a 10/10 if they didn't fade out that beautiful guitar solo towards the end of the song.
