The next level is a remixing (Think 2004 Megadeth releases), which takes the original tracks but has a new mix applied and by extension a new mastering. Finally, there's rerecording (Like this and also Ice Nine Kill's new Safe Is Just A Shadow rerelease), wherein the modern lineup of a band completely remakes a song. Like a remaster or remix would still have Travis on it, this has Alex instead. To use an allegory, imagine a Remaster as Psycho on Blu-Ray, a Remix as Psycho in color, and a Rerecording as a full remake of Psycho (But not like the actual remake of Psycho cause that thing sucked, while Pillars '17 is awesome).

It took a while for me to make up my mind about which I prefer. There is a certain aesthetic that comes with the original due to the audio quality but the mastering just does so much that I can never listen to the old one. There’s so much more depth to the sound and this song really shows that off. Probably the hardest song in my entire library

Nah let them keep going into the prog and groove/post thrash direction with some classic metal flashes. For me, ideally the next album should be like Sin and Shogun but even more extreme and after that they can pull an In Waves and do some metalcore, whereever the genre is in 5 years or so.

This rerecorded version of Pillars of Serpents is absolutely badass! One of my all time favorite Trivium songs. They really should release a deluxe edition of TSATS with this song included. I know it's already on the japanese album, but I refuse to pay the silly buying prices most online shops demand for it and additional shipping costs to get it imported. That's unreasonable for only one song. I'll rather wait for a deluxe edition so I know the money I spent actually reaches the band and not only some dealer overseas! Come on Matt, make this happen! 🤘🏻
