The loco you are displaying has the"C3" stamped in white underneath. This is a date stamp "3" = 1953 and "C" = March so this is a post WW2 set. The Tank Loco is "L3" so is Dec 1953. The "Peko" couplings are post war and the points are also the post war design. You can mount the outside pickup shoes on either side so you can control two locos traveling in the same direction independently provided their outside pickup shoes are mounted on opposite sides.

Thanks Geoff for the information. I always enjoy increasing my knowledge of these older locos. I appreciate you taking the time to comment. I will be able to understand the markings of future locos. Take care, Jim L

You're absolutely right that Trix Twin Railways were introduced in the 1930s. But the set that you have must date from the late 1940s or early 50s. Most obviously the locos have British Railways markings, and British Railways only came into existence in 1948. Also the stock appears to have Simplex couplings, and those were invented by Sydney Pritchard just after the war, coming to market in 1946 (and adopted by Hornby Dublo at that time). Trix continued to produce AC powered 3-rail in Britain until 1956 (then switching to DC). It'll be very interesting to see you getting this set running.

Hi, thanks for looking in. I'm grateful to viewers, like yourself, who are able to keep me right about details over age and manufacture. Your comments about BR make sense. (Hopefully by now, you will have seen 'Trix Twin - Part II.) When I get sets like this, I usually have little idea of their history so, I have to do some research, which often is not the most helpful. So, thanks again. The part where I notice that the motor side frame is broken is purely through my own mishandling but, I hope to get this repaired in Part III. Keep in touch, take care. Cheers, Jim L

Well I wondered if the second loco unboxing would be a diesel....until you said how old the set is! They didn't exist! Great video.
