I cannot wait to see your reactions to the second and third films in this trilogy. Andy Serkis is truly amazing in bringing Caesar to life. If I may recommend, the original from 1968 is a true classic and there are a lot of references in this trilogy to the original. I was not born until three years after the 1968 film, but I grew up watching The Planet Of The Apes. All five films, the TV series and the animated series. They were all a big part of my childhood. But these three films definitely pack a bigger emotional punch. They get you right in the feels.

The original Planet of the Apes films are iconic classics and pillars of science fiction. They deal with many themes that are still relevant today. Overall, the original premise was "What if Humans were the animals and the other Great Ape species were the dominant species, with horses and guns?" There's also the Tim Burton film.

Of course you were expected to recognize Caesar's next-door neighbor, an airline pilot traveling the world, who got the disease from the lab assistant sneezing on him, and helped spread it across the globe. I hope you'll watch the classic original films from 1968 to 1973. The first film is iconic, but they're all worth watching. My favorite is the third film of the five (second sequel), Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1972).

I watched my father in law die from atypical Alzheimer’s. It’s such an insidious disease. My wife’s heart broke the day her own father didn’t know who she was, the man she’d been closest to for her entire life until we met. It was so difficult to watch, both the family’s pain and to see such an intelligent, funny man be reduced to nothing, until his brain forgot how to breathe and he died. It’s something I wouldn’t wish on any person or family.

Caesar needs no anger management hes still an animal and intelligent loving son who got protective of his grandpa (the poking of the chest was seen as a threat) Caesar is such an amazing character, I've always been a big animal lover, especially apes. Even more so after this trilogy. Caesar is so compassionate & understanding, even after all he's suffered. Caesar as a leader puts most human leaders of today, to shame. Caesar definitely wanted to go home too, u can see how hard it was for him to reject will. He put his fellow apes first. Not sure if u realised that Caesar also made himself even smarter as he was born with the 1:12 but also inhaled the 1:13 while making his fellow apes smart. Caesar has no desire to take over the planet, he knows not all humans are bad. He just wants freedom for apes.

I've seen the Tim Burton Planet of the apes with Mark Wahlberg, but I haven't sat through the original ones from the 60's & 70's; however I seem to remember that even those ones didn't really go into visual detail about the Origin of the Apes. They seemed to all be set thousands of years after the apes have already evolved and have their own civilization. Also Fun Fact: it's well know about the Planet of the Apes lore that when Ceaser yells NO!!!! it becomes THE pivotal moment in Ape culture. It is even incorporated into their own history as a catalyst for their becoming a full blown society.

The movies do go into detail about the origin of the apes it's just a little far fetched science wise. In the not too distant future a plague wipes out all forms of house pets. Humans start keeping apes as housepets to replace their lost companions. However this quickly transitions to slavery for the apes and the apes begin to rapidly evolve. Caesar being the child of Cornelius and Zera who travel back in time from the future takes it upon himself to liberate the apes and lead them to freedom. He overthrows the humans and apes become the dominant species in society. Humans retaliate with nuclear weapons and much of the world is left irradiated. Caesar is known thousands of years later in the first Planet Of The Apes film simply as "the lawgiver" as his name has been lost to time and he has become a religious figure. The use of the word "no" in this film is actually a callback to IIRC Battle Of The Planet Of The Apes where you get to see Caesars liberation. When the apes are enslaved they are chastised any time they don't correctly follow orders by having the word "no" yelled at them. After Caesar overthrows humans and tries to create a society where humans and apes live together one of the laws he institutes is that no human shall ever say "no" to an ape ever again. It is a forbidden word for humans as far as apes are concerned. As time goes on eventually the humans essentially devolve societally as a result of no longer being the dominant species on the planet and a societal split with the now intelligent apes. Humans lose access to basic technology and even language and become a subservient hunted species to the apes who now rule what's left of the planet. The apes justify their subjugation of humans using their religion which is loosely based on the retelling of the real exploits of Caesar over thousands of years and has now become over characterized and overly symbolic as tends to happen with religion. This prequel trilogy essentially retcons the original origin story for Planet Of The Apes that the original sequels established. The original story was a bit more sci Fi with things such as time travel.

Oh, Blue, what a great reaction to a truly fine movie. The 1968 original is still my favorite, but I’m an old guy so what do I know? I’d recommend that you watch the rest of this trilogy then the 1968 original. Check out the sequels to the first film if you’re still interested, but this trilogy is best thought of as an alternate version of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th (and final) films in the original sequence. Enjoy your journey and stay sweet.

Trixy, I hope you will give the original films a chance. While this reboot trilogy certainly exceeded my expectations as a long-time Apes fan, nothing can surpass the originals. The first film is a science fiction classic, and the sequels, while not up to the standard of the first film, all have something to recommend them.

The original Planet of The Apes movies are great classics and many movies and tv shows paid tributes to them. It is my belief they are low just from the young movie viewers who don't like true classic movies because there is no CGI effects and had story lines that did not focus of fightings and over the top effects to grab attention. I've actually heard people say they didn't like it solely for the lack of modern CGI.

Fun reaction The moment Ceasar (Yells No) speaking for the first time gives me goosebumps. This new rebooted Planet of the Apes franchise is very good and surprisingly every film is fantastic. The CGI is very good in this movie, and the ground breaking CGI effects get incredibly more realistic with each film in this franchise. Eventually you almost forget the Apes are CGI because they look and behave so believable/realistic. Looking forward to your reaction to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. As for the older films: Only the orginal 1968 Planet of the Apes has a good rating and is worth watching. There was a reboot in 2001 and it had a couple good moments, but felt off somehow and wasn't well received.

I think the imdb and rotten tomatoes ratings for the original movies are rather unfair. They were big enough hits to attempt a remake in 2001 (that one wasn't good), and then again in 2011 lol. They weren't bad. Just old, so the visual and audio quality is lacking. Also, appreciation comment for Andy Serkis. Dude played Caesar, Gollum, King Kong, Supreme Leader Snoke in Star Wars, Ulysses Klaue in the MCU, and Alfred Pennyworth in the 2022 Batman movie. His depth and range is incredible.

You should know that there is another "Planet of the Apes" slated to come out in late May of next year called "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes." It will be a sequel to this trilogy. I also strongly recommend that you watch the first five movies in the "Planet of the Apes" franchise which starred Charlton Heston & Roddy McDowell. They were released from 1968 to 1973. This franchise explores religious, social & political themes while still managing to be wildly fun & entertaining at the same time.

Trixy keeps getting shocked by the lack of legal procedure in the movie, but it takes place in america, and they represented our laws pretty accurately. Animals are considered property, there is no federal requirement to consider their well-being in a court of law, but has property they're rightful ownership, outside of whether they are a danger or not is important. And you're shocked by 30 days for an apeal? Our right to a fair trial has always been left to interpretation for judges. There's a Guy in Texas that's still in prison after 9 years, no trial, no hearing, and the only evidence to be released about his case points to his innocence.

'get a lawyer' Umm you'd be surprised how many have to wait for their court date even with a lawyer for much longer. And as far as Zoo's should be banned, you need to see some of the top Zoo's in the U.S. before making that judgement. Their network as all but are all but keeping some animals from going extinct. Don't judge all zoos by the few you have seen.

Well think about the situation for one second. He suddenly BELIEVES everyone is LYING to him about everything he knows and his nurse is patronizing him without so much as being soft about it. He KNOWS things are not the way he left them AND he doesn't know why AND he knows he's confused, but he can't remember WHY; he gets frustrated and rather than talk to him to calm him down the nurse just says let's get you your medicine. He doesn't WANT medication he wants reassurance and comfort. THIS is the big LIE that Psychiatric institutions and pharmaceutical companies HIDE from the public. rather than actually help people deal with their issues, they just "medicate" them until their minds are so jumbled that even when they aren't medicated they act confused and agitated, which THEN makes the doctors medicate them even more. people are no longer given the freedom and right to express their frustrations which is WAY MORE healthy for their mental state than medication.

As someone that actually has and struggles with mental illness please keep your opinions to yourself because you don't know what you're talking about.
