such a simple idea as having the resonator at an angle helped my slants a lot. Thanks!

Thank you. I am a nephew of the Late Great Mike Auldridge and I am trying to continue the family legacy of music. I recently picked up a Dobro and I am teaching myself a few things. I know that he often used this tuning and that is why I watched your instruction.

I just started playing. Mike is my all time favorite player. I love the variety of music he played. My most favorite albums are the ones he did with The Seldom Scene.

Hey Troy... some very useful tips in refining our playing technique. A question about tuning. If you tune open strings, would you not change that tuning by pushing down on the strings to negate bar noise? Micro changes, but close enough for rock & roll? Maybe too pedantic, but I’ve noticed a very slight change on my acoustic with a Schaller add-on nut if I accidentally push maybe too hard to remove bottleneck noise. In the blues, it maybe adds to the atmospherics... Thanks again. I have a few of your tutorial demos, which are gold.

Troy... What is the standard tuning for the resonator guitar or dobro and a lap steel. There are so many alternate tunings, but I’m wondering what a standard tuning is for lap steel ? Is it a dobro GBDgbd tuning, or is it is C6 tuning 1-3-5-6-1-3 or something else; I’m confused 😩

Hi, what’s the benefit to using GBDGBD as opposed to DGDGBD as an open G tuning, which seems more common playing the more mainstream guitar style please?
@Three_Eyed_Willy4 жыл бұрын
Most dobro tabs are in GBDGBD tuning. Slide guitar is a completely different animal. A lot of slide guitar players prefer open D, DADF#AD.

It make playing melodically easier. Think about it, if your bottom strings have big intervals, it makes playing clean runs more difficult, especially when you're trying to play up the neck on the low strings. Having those lower tuned bottom strings is better for when you want to play a baseline along with a melody like in Travis picking

Also with GBDGBD, you have a duplicate of the first three strings an octave lower on the last three strings. Any lick you can play on the first three strings will move over to the other three strings automatically.
