Collecting a few Velvet swimming crabs from the pots aka Lady crabs then cleaning cooking under the grill & boiling.
Velvet Swimming crabs can be caught from pots or gathered by hand from the shore. Locally the minimum size limit is 6.5cm at time of publication but always check the rules and regulation for your area first.

Troj just looking back at some videos and yes in Ireland they do a good trade at exporting velvet crabs to Spain. I live in a small fishing village in Northern Ireland and they do well catching these. Stay safe.

I used to creel fish out of Mallaig for velvets and lobster many years ago. We used to bag them up ready for collection, they did export them all to Spain as there was no request for them locally. I heard that when grilled the whole crab was crushed into a paste as a delicacy. After a weeks fishing we could get about 20 stone.

There's no market for them here either. Often only a few of the older generation eat them. As for export they would probably charge more than you would get for the crab here.

Enjoyed that Troy and when I first starting eating Velvet Swimming Crab I could understand why they are very popular down in the Med. Very tasty.

Its one I like so many don't often eat. To spoilt for choice I think with spider & brown crab. Many of the older generation here used to eat them they even had Velvet Swimming Crab pots especially for them with smaller entrances. You don't see them anymore here.

Another awesome video, spot on. My son loves them after reading the beach foraging handbook from the River Cottage team by John Wright. We get plenty up here in the Highlands of Scotland, as a couple of people have said 100% export; Spain, Portugal and France I'm told by the locals. Fish-Cat obviously knows a good thing when he sees it! Keep up the great uploads mate, top stuff.

It’s the sweetest crab I’ve ever tasted and they are abundant but it’s a bit of a chore extracting the meat compared with brown crab or lobster. Must try grilling them - I’ll be checking my creels on Monday.

Orkney export them. It is a major fishery at certain times of the year. They have just increased the size limit now to keep it under control.

Brilliant the is tonnes of them in the menai straits and I've always fancied given them a go, it's interesting that when you boil them the shells go hard but if you grill or fry them the shells go brittle! Yes I'm going to give them a go for sure 🦀👍

Scotland and Ireland export the crab like there's no tomorrow to Spain as there's not really a market in the UK for them.... They're the perfect crab for their paella out there they say....

Nice one Troy, the smell of hot grilled shells, you can’t beat it. I reckon they would be nice with a bit of garlic butter and parsley drizzled over, might try that with the Crayfish, fiddly but worth the effort. I’ll par boil and then grill I think. 👍
