Bang Chan is a literal living legend. That man had to work and grind for years to get to where he is now. The fact that he choose the members of Stray Kids himself is practically unheard of. Chan gained the trust of JYP over his years of training and he knew exactly which boys to pick and raised them to be all-rounders and triple threats. Without Chan there is no Stray Kids, he even created their name and designed their logo. He's a freaking superhero.

It wasn't just Hyunjin and Felix that had a short trainee time. One thing the guide missed was that Lee Know was only a trainee for 2 months before joining the group. He was an exceptional dancer and completed the JYP mandatory dance classes in just two weeks. Normally that takes months and over a year for some. Lee Know tends to have a more conservative style compared to Felix and Hyunjin but his face fits the classic Korean beauty standard the most. He's one of the most popular member's despite not having a lot of screen time in their earlier music videos. All three members of Danceracha have worked hard over the years and it's good to see them all excel.

chan took a long time to debut not because he lacked in looks (I can assure you even by idol standards he is very good looking and other idols say the same, he’s just surprisingly appealing to the western standards as well), but because he was supposed to debut as the maknae in got7. however for unclear reasons he didn’t make it. he’s always been a producer and crazily talented with leadership skills, so the company told him to make his own team. over the years of training, chan eventually got to know the members of stray kids as they joined the company and asked them to join his group. the video is in age order but in timeline order it would be: chan, 2011 han, 2014 I.N, 2015/16 changbin, hyunjin, felix (not sure which order here!), 2016 seungmin, Jan 2017 leeknow, july 2017 their survival show then started airing first in october 2017 after all of skz were finally formed and then they debuted as stray kids on march 25th 2018 (0325, the most important number for stays).

1. Yes, the average training period is around 1.5-2 years. Bang Chan training for 7 years obviously caused alot of insecurities, as he kept making friends with other trainees and they debuted without him. Its been said in show/interviews that this caused him to stop making friends at one point in fear of being left behind. Hence, early on the other SKZ members feared him a little as he was not so open anymore and quite strict. 2. Chan training for an extraordinarily long period of time may be one of the reasons why he was allowed to pick out his own team members. Normally, the company creates a team they think will work together, but a leader choosing the members had never happened before. 3. SKZ making all their songs, beats and choreographies on their own is also something not commonly seen in kpop. This freedom of work allows them to fully express their own creativity. 4. JYP (the old guy) is the Founder of JYP Entertainment. Basically the ceo. You'll see him alot if you choose to react to the survival show. Also, love your reaction videos!!! I always find it quite interesting when people say Changbin is a better rapper than Han because when they try to explain why it almost always comes down to preferences. They have such different styles and strengths that it's super hard to actually compare them talent-wise. For me, they're on par with each other and the fact that they're never trying to do the same thing in a song means that we get so much variety and different types of impact from each verse. I LOVE when they rap back and forth. What a power duo. Also the shortest training period was actually Lee Know! I think he trained for around 2 months before joining skz for the survival show (please correct me if I'm mistaken). What a whirlwind that must have been for him

I highly recommend (since you’re already tackling early music videos) for personality videos and 3racha centric things the series goes: Chan and Changbin write a song and it’s unique, THEN 3 men in colorful pants and then follow up with Chan makes a Kkulchong edm song because Lee Know tells him to. Trust me. But as for Hyunjin and Felix debuting ‘faster’, it wasn’t so much about their looks because the company wasn’t picking them, Chan was. Lee Know is actually the one who fits Korean beauty standards the most - with his single discrepancy being a few cm shorter than the standard. His profile is considered perfect.

I think you should take a look into learning more about Han’s rapping skills. You haven’t really seen a lot yet because Han’s role is split between both rapping & singing. Changbin has a naturally stronger tone, whereas Han likes to be more lyrical with his raps, so Changbin does stand out more to people. I wouldn’t say his skills are any less than Changbin’s, they are both main rappers for a reason. I wouldn’t compare them, they are both very different & highly skilled.

Changbin and Han biased here 👋 i think that you yet have a lot to know and discover about Han's rap. Changbin's raps are maybe more noticeable since he almost (big almost here) raps in their songs, and Han usually do both singing and rapping. Han's rap-ability and freestyle rapping are VERY good! I would say that they are almost equally good but with different styles (this is ofc my opinion 😂😊). But they do have different flows and voices, and everything comes down to ones preferences! Thank you for the reaction!! 🙏

I really must agree. It's was definitely a hard part to watch. I mean, I get that he obviously prefers Chan and Changbin in the group. But it makes me a little sad when I see that he kinda seems to always put Han to the side or use him as a comparison for how good another member is... and then go on to never mention him in his own right throughout the rest of most of his videos. Don't get me wrong!! I actually really like this reactor! I do! I also completely understand having a member, or even a few, that you have an extra soft spot for! I guess I just flinch a little when I feel a reactor is subconsciously putting one of the boys further back than all of the others in their opinion of them. I don't know if I'm just being too sensitive, though, you know? Because I'm am an OT8 with a slight Han bias. So i mean, yeah, this is the perfect storm to cause someone like me a twinge of sadness when it occurs. Lol, I guess I just wish he would wait until he's put some music under his belt to form such opinions, you know? Because they have like 170 songs or something now, with more about to drop. Not to mention all the content that we have probably all seen. So, we know just how unbelievably talented Han is.... However, at the same time, perhaps even then he would have the same opinion, so I really can't just say he formed it too early, not if that's how he feels without having seen much of the discography at all. In fact, thinking about what he has seen, he's really only done two songs that had any REAL "Han" in them. Andeven then, both were what I would call some of his more... tame, parts. At least, compared to what we have seen him do. I don't know. I just really really want to keep liking this guy, so I will put aside how I currently feel and try to remind myself we are a nice fandom and everyone is entitled to their own opinions. We all know that this is what Chan would ask us to do in this situation.
@miccismr Жыл бұрын
@ReapingWillow you are actually elaborating my answer quite well! I am also OT8, with a slightly biased towards both Han and Changbin. And your answer is actually how my thought process went watching this. But english isn't my first language, so I was afraid to write something that could be taken in the wrong way, you know? I was also afraid that I was a bit too sensitive or that i would come of as "overprotective" or that i overreacted. I really don't want to come of as negative or hateful! Because that is NOT my intention at all 🙂 I just believe that some of the opinions are made up to soon. Just like you said, he has yet only reacted to like two songs that Han show some skills - but even those are tame compare to what we in the fandom know him for! But also, as I said, in the end it comes down to preference. So we'll have to see what his opinion is further down the skz rabbit hole.

My personal theory of why Chan trained for seven years is that because Chan was so good to begin with, (dancing, singing, playing piano and guitar, etc.) JYP groomed him to be exactly what he is today, the leader of a successful handpicked group with creative control of their music rather than just one of the members of another group. Thanks to those seven years he was able to study music composition and production that he was able to showcase during the survival show. Like I said, no facts to back up my theory, just makes sense to me.

First off: love your reactions and yes I totally agree that people who fit the Korean beauty standard have it easier to debut for sure. JYP is the founder and long term CEO of JYP-entertainment. I think he stepped down from the ceo position but is still the main shareholder of jype. So he is the big boss of stray kids. (He is a popular musician and producer and is/was heavily involved in all his artists music, stray kids being an exception to this and only having i think one song produced by him- edit: it’s only the song “all in” and he was super nervous to Play the track for them/nervous they’d reject him -thanks to sojins gf for helping out/correcting me). There are some videos where he interacts with skz after the survival show. If I have the time I try to put the links here. One is an interview of how skz was formed (here Chan explains what characteristics made him pick the members) kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYvZkH5jq52oiqs And one is him discussing I think the second mini album with 3Racha) kzbin.info/www/bejne/nanGaIxupt6mfqc While it’s an insider in stayville that especially changbin hates JYP the guys do respect him a lot and JYP does trust and support SKZ. For example he let them change their title track of their “Go Live” album basically last minute (the original Titel track was already recorded but along came “Gods menu” and he agreed to change the songs. And thank god he did because gods menu really changed skz trajectory) and he was also present at their recent LA concert. JYP is highly respected in the K-pop industry but still it seems to be in the job description of JYPE artists to make fun of him. By imitations his singing style/dance moves 😂 those videos are always fun to watch btw. Despite having been spoiled the survival show is a must watch and will show you how much the guys improved but also how very talented they were at such a young age. It’ll also show you a bit why Chan comes across quite serious in early productions of theirs (as you have mentioned in another video). Maybe have tissues at the ready or be prepared to be pissed off at jyp because despite knowing how the show ends it still hits you in the feels every time. (Of cause it’s produced to be as dramatic as possible because “views”) And yes there are quite a lot of groups which are created or at least hyped up predebut through survival shows.

(Along with the survival show fiasco, of course.) Yeah, he KINDA put a kink if their perfect record. At least as far as Changbin was concerned. However, JYP did do it with nothing but good intentions, and he really was so nervous. Lol that said, I think Changbin kinda got him back by them having credit for it too, though. And of course, that one song... (which is their debut Japanese track, and doesn't even count af a part of their OFFICIAL Korean discography.) Is nothing compared to their having the credit for all the writing, composing, main production, and even arrangment that they do... they tuly are the masterminds behind every single other song in their discography. At least they are responsible for 99.97% of their discography! Lmao

@chibib Жыл бұрын
Wasn't expecting another video today! Anyways, no one knows the order in which Chan selected the Stray Kids members (save for Lee Know who is 100% the last guy), but this was the order of the SKZ members joining the company: Chan - Han - I.N - Changbin/Hyunjin/Woojin - Felix - Seungmin - Lee Know Fun fact, Lee Know auditioned in the same year as Changbin, but was accepted only years later. Some estimate that he got into the company around July 2017 (?). About survival shows, yes it's a thing to hype up groups, but the SKZ survival show was an entirely different take from the usual. Normal survival shows work on a "trainee vs. trainee" premise and often a combination of judges + audience vote will decide who gets to fill in a set number of spots for a new group to debut. The Stray Kids survival show had a "group of trainees vs. the management" set-up where Chan had to prove to that "old guy" that the team he formed was ready for debut. The audience only got to vote in the end where they had to decide 9 members vs. 7 members, instead of individually picking a trainee/s to vote for debut. I'm not too sure how long is the average training period for idols. I did find comments in an old discussion where they were suprised that SKZ will be composed of one 7-year trainee and a bunch of 3/2/1-year trainees + months-old Lee Know. Based from those, I think the average or ideal training period would be around 3-5 years? Idk, but definitely 7 years is way too long, and based from those comments, 2 years is a little too short. Not to be rude, but I did think some of the SKZ members felt half-baked during the survival show (but they're all waaaayyy better now). Thanks for your reactions and your insights. Looking forward to the next ones!

@seniorkittystay Жыл бұрын
I think the average training period is between two and three years. They usually count the time right up to debut as the trainee period, though here they only did it with some of them. Lee Know, Felix and Han's trainee period was as of debut, but Chan's trainee period at debut would have been close to eight years. Han's father was in a rock group, so he always had the music influence. The exam he came back to Korea to write was basically the final exams. Being home-schooled, he wrote those when he was 15\16. Chan had (and still does have) a lot of friends in Australia from all nationalities, and loves to talk about the various menus he has been introduced to through them. His family moved to Australia when he was a baby, and started from scratch. That is probably why there is such a big gap between him and his siblings, they most likely wanted to establish themselves before growing the family. Most of the decent guides will give you a lot of information on all of them, so I will leave you to explore further. There is one channel (Vic Killjoy) that has done a guide (and an extra extended guide) for each of the members, and one for each of the Rachas. So that is also worth checking out to get a lot of information, even though it is older and there is so much more information available now. Welcome to the rabbit hole 😁

Lee Know joined JYP in July 2017, the Show started filming in September 2017, and SKZ debuted in March 2018 so he only had 2 months to prepare and catch up before they announced they would debut. Once the show ended, the boys had to prepare for their debut so they were no longer trainees. Lee Know is the one who debuted with the least experience and had to learn everything once he was already an idol (except dance, obviously he already knew how to do it) since his time as a trainee was really short.

15:27 as we said chan chose them as his members of skz. Training time was prolly the last on his checklist. He was more on potential and what charms of the members caught him.

2-3 years training is very common and average yeah, chan training for 7 years was super long and every time it gets brought up he described how it was absolute hell for him. leeknow has had the shortest training period of all, training only 2 months which was a reason why he got eliminated, he wasn’t as well versed with singing and rapping as the others. felix got eliminated because his korean was still lacking even though he was an amazing dancer and has such a unique voice.

Great reaction! But I do think this video glosses over a few things. I just watch the survival show, Felix & Lee know coming back was definitely a little more than JY.P just wanting to create some drama. He's very thorough & on point but a very blunt critic. Because the standard had to be high among other groups & since they were JYP's 1st group that made their own self produced music and had a leader Bang chan hand pick his own members vs the company completely doing so. During the several missions Felix and Lee know really seriously almost didn't debut together, along with a few others. Lee know had a short training period and was struggling in some areas and Felix's Korean was pretty weak and because he needed to work on his confidence. But JY.P gave them a chance & saw the groups dynamic and they worked their ass off to improve that in a short time along with the other members to debut as 9 especially when they already trained & started living together. Bang Chan training for 7 years is very abnormal but in the end they saved him for a big project. He actually went through around 7-9 evaluations with other trainees before debuting in stray kids. A lot of traiinees either debuted without him or were all cut if they felt they weren't showing enough potential anymore. Bang Chan went through a lot at the time, and lost a lot of friends. He mentioned he was actually a little closed off at some points & cold until he finally debuted with stray kids.

"survival shows" are very very common in kpop, they really exploded in 2016 with the "produce" series. It was where they would take a select amount of trainees from many different companies and basically make them compete against eachother to be in a group. every other year they would change from making a girl group, to making a boy group, and the members were fan voted. 2016 produce 101 formed girl group "I.O.I" (disbanded in 2017) 2017 produce 101 fomed boy group "wanna one" (disbanded in 2019) 2018 produce 48 formed girl group "Iz*one" (disbanded in 2020) and 2019 produce X 101 formed boy group "X1" but there was a scandal with mnet (the company who produced the show) rigging the voting, so they disbanded shortly after, and mnet discontinued this series. all of these groups became very very popular for the short amount of time they were active as a group, but the thing is with these survival show groups is that, at most they have a contract of 2 years with the label they are under, and at the end of the contract, they have to disband. for skz it was different because jyp was looking for a "permanent" group and not a temporary one like mnet has been. most of the members of these former survival show groups have re-debuted in new groups, or as solo artists. some of them are : somi and chungha from I.O.I redebuted as solo artists, woodz and kang daniel from wanna one also re-deduted as solo artists. yujin and wonyoung from izone redebuted in a new kpop group together called "IVE" and sakura and chaewon also from izone redebuted in a differend kpop group called "lesserafim" since then theres been many new survival shows, including a new series also produced by mnet which is the planet 999 series, last year they made a girlgroup called "kep1er" and not to long ago like a few weeks ago they just finished forming a boy group called "zerobaseone" and you were actually right about the beauty standard thing making it easier for some people to debut. a lot of the times in survival shows, judges would choose trainees that were good looking and had no talent, over ones that have talent but didnt fit the beauty standard as much. the judge in survival show "my teenage girl" was caught doing that without even trying to hide it, literally saying "(vocal trainee)'s ability is very good, but she doesnt stand out in a crowd, we need a member with a face that can gather fans" people speculate they did the same in girls planet 999, because most of the trainees that had really good vocals got eliminated, while the ones with sup-par vocals, but fit the korean beauty standards a bit more, got to debut. and mnet decided to auto-tune many of the performances the trainees did.

LeeKnow had the least traning time . If im not wrong, it was only a month? Ik it was under 12 months but I think he only trained for a month or 3. They didnt say but Hyunjin was street casted by a Jyp employee at the store shopping with his mom. Meaning hee had 0 skills walking in Jyp company (Singing, rapping, dancing, etc) so he worked extra hard for thoes 2-3 years to debut along side his fellow memebers of Stray Kids. Also its a good thing that Chan trained for those 7-8 years cause he gained Jyp trust to the point the man himself let Channie pick his members which was the first time in history that happen in Jyp company. Plus he got to make friends with many 4th gen Kpop idols and is super popular (Correct me on any wrong info I might of said Stay)

2 years seems short ? I mean it's the average time but fun fact, Lee Know trained for 7 months. For Felix and Hyunjin debuting faster that Chan, I actually want to point out that you have to take into account when groups debuted. For JYP entertainment, Got7 debuted in 2014, so Chan was kinda young and his friend Bam Bam that debuted in Got7 wasn't even suppose to debut in Got7. and then the next boys groups was Day 6 in 2015, a band which he could have joined. And then skz were the next, you have to remember that groups don't debut that often in agencies. And don't forget that id Chan didn't train for as long as he did we would never have gotten skz. It's because he trained for that long that JYP trusted him enough to create his own group. And without Chan, I.N would have never joined since he was in the saturday classes (so kinda the kid classes).

6:48 Yeah it's really popular to have survival shows to pick which trainees actually debut in a group. Monsta X, Twice (as mentioned), Enhypen and lots more groups were formed using survival shows. The show doesn't really test how well the members "mesh together", they determine who from the trainee lineup has the skills to debut at that point in time. It's up to the members to work on and form those relationships afterwards. A big example of that is in the No Mercy survival show that created Monsta X (but I won't say exactly what it is because spoilers).

There are a lot of groups that debut without having been on a show like NCT, aespa, newjeans, (G)I-DLE, TXT, 8turn, Ateez and a bunch of others. But then there are some who go through survival shows. The most recent one, for example, is boys planet, which has made the group zerobaseone (JAY CHANG WAS ROBBED IM STILL MAD ABT THAT) . And the there's others like enhypen formed through I-LAND, Iz*one formed through produce 48, kep1er from girls planet 999 and there's a bunch of others that I could name. These survival shows arent like stray kids though with the members they want already picked, these ones have up to like 100 contestants being voted for by fans and stuff.

They were both filmed there and for Boxer there's even a short behind video. Would be funny if you know the locations - aside from the obvious tourist hot spots i mean. They have even more videos from sydney/australia, like 2 episodes of their show called "Finding SKZ" (episode 2 and 3 of the first season) or skz-talker go which is kind of a behind the scenes of their concerts and stuff. i dont know if someone answered this but I wanted to give my take on the survival shows. When kpop blew up in the west (mostly bc of BTS), the western media thought kpop was very 'fake', 'manifactured' because they joined and trained under a company and (mostly) didn't have a choice with who they debut. Survival shows, in my opinion, was to combat that and show their human side. You get to see these people struggle, do their best to debut and you connect to them. So it's also a way to create a connection between fan and idols so the group lasts longer. Stray kids is different though because Chan chose the members and the survival show was not about picking members to form a group but about proving Chans ability to create/form a cohesive, well trained group.
