Does anyone have any comments on the utility of the C trigger on the bass trombonist’s instrument (at least that’s what I’ve heard from this comment section it is)? Alternative valve tunings like a G instead of Gb have been popularized by Denson Paul Pollard, and actually seem very useful to me, but this valve section seems a bit nonsensical to me. You can already play C in 1st with a F trigger (granted it’s not the low C (C2), you can play B in 2nd with an F trigger, and Bb in flat 3rd with an F trigger. And I don’t see any need to have to play a pedal Bb in flat 3rd, or pedal A in flat 4/5. My knowledge on the positions for the C valve might be wrong since I’m sure the bigger valve section means more adjusting outwards, but feel free to enlighten me!

I don't think it is useful or necessary for that excerpt. Perhaps it was desired for some other item on the same program.

@@robcat2075 yeah I started a conversation on trombone chat and all have agreed that it was likely for some other part of the program, or he was just trying out the setup for a bit to get used to weight and response. W didn’t use this setup for his entire career.
