The amount of confidence you need to play over an entire orchestra Is a lot also the mic doesn’t do justice to how loud this guy ìs actually playing. I’ve played this piece in band myself as the bass trombonist and the person who played this said that he struggled to play at that volume while still remaining beautiful. This guy has some talent, it’s not easy by any means to play that loud while still having a good warm sound Love from a Swedish bass trombonist

Mahler was probably the most celebrated and gifted conductor of his day, and knew every inch of every instrument of the orchestra to perfection. His scores are probably the most detailed I've ever seen by a composer, so this doesn't really surprise me.

I was just about to say this. One of my biggest pet peeves is when percussionists let the cymbals rebound against each other after the initial crash. Use your damn shoulder muscles to keep them apart!

Yes, it is in context, this is pure Mahler. Mahler has to be played with a certain, mahler'ish intensity, which is fully achieved here.
@andrewknowles6731
@andrewknowles6731 2 жыл бұрын
Well its mostly fortissimo which in the context of trombone playing is pretty damn loud! This solo does require a bright but full and very loud sound to have the weight of impact that Mahler required, he wrote very forcefully at times for brass. The solo itself whilst not technically difficult (apart from being able to play a full sound in the lower and mid registers and not splitting or cracking any notes ) carries enormous pressure not least because not many trombone get to play it in anger. This performance whilst not perfect ( very few are) has a great sound and conveys the feeling that its meant to. I have never played it to an audience but if I am lucky enough to have a go I hope I play it as well as this.

Well, as i see it, Mahler deals with one thing at s time, with a veerryyy long fermata over it… where as Chopin often is so full of stuff that you can easily make a whole Mahler symphony out of. 😅😅😅. The video above is a perfect example. Just the same marcia funebre that is stuck.
