I believe it’s some form of tone intensifier. Some parts of the trumpet are susceptible to a loss of energy/vibration. I’m pretty sure that whatever that piece it’s is meant to prevent the loss of energy/vibration, making it so your playing easier.

Bravo Vincent, encore une fois, ce que tu fais relève du grand art, j'espère qu'en Suisse tu es qualifié de meilleur ouvrier de Suisse, c'est en tout cas un titre que tu pourrais utiliser tellement tu es hors concours. Le master des master's a encore frappé. Juste un petit truc qui m'échappe. Quelle est l'utilité du petit machin en bois et métal que tu fais coulisser vers la fin du film? Je ne pense pas avoir perçu de changement de son après que tu l'aies bougé. Merci de m'éclairer sur ce point. Vivement un trombone à réparer que je bave encore un peu. Bravo, mille bravo.

+Olivier MOINGEON Merci pour tous tes compliments Olivier. J'aimerais bien être aussi connu chez moi qu'à l'étranger(lol). Mais comme dit le proverbe, nul n'est prophète... A propos de l'anneau harmonique, il a un effet très intéressant sur la sonorité, sur le bout du manchon de coulisse le son est percussif, tiré vers l'embouchure, le son est plus chaud et intimiste. A essayer en tous les cas!

If a bell is repaired, it becomes harder because of working on it and so the trumpet bell "sings" different afterwards. Could this be true and could annealing be a good idea to restore the original orientation of the copper crystals??

not really. during manufacturing, if done the traditional way, the metal will be heated to avoid it splitting during hammering and forming. the final forming would be done cold on a lathe, which hardens the metal, with the objective being to have a uniform tensile. this horn had extensive damage, so I suppose a re-form without heating might cause the metal to harden, but I doubt by any significant amount to alter the tone. if altered, I would expect the tone to be a tad brighter.
