Thanks for the tips!! We are going to Tromso at the end of October/first week of November. Do you recommend to book a car for chasing the norther lights?
@worthytravels
@worthytravels 9 ай бұрын
Hi Teresa! If you wish to chase the Northern Lights, I would highly recommend researching about the best possible dark spots in and around Tromso and the Finnmark area before booking a car. That way, you’ll know where to go to get the best chances of seeing them. Sometimes, you may have to drive as far as Finland as well (bring your passport with you when you do decide to drive for your chase in case you have to cross the border). I also recommend booking a tour; however, they don’t necessarily always guarantee a successful trip. The nice thing about having a car is you can travel to as many places as you wish during your entire stay to increase your chances of seeing the Northern Lights. I hope this helps! :-) Happy hunting and I hope you’ll see them during your trip!

We went in November. As with all things weather it’s hard to predict but Oct you may see snow. It’s the start of the winter season. Ideally you’ll want it to snow before you arrive otherwise the cloud cover is going to prevent you from seeing the Northern Lights.

Hi there! Thank you so much! Your comments mean a lot to us and they keep us inspired. November is normally a great time to go as winter starts to set in and Tromso starts to transition from autumn. The nights are mostly clear too. There is really no direct way to predict the weather conditions so far ahead of time. However, there are many ways to help you plan your trip, like the KP index, etc. I have more tips on our video too: feel free to check out Your Northern Lights Guide | Aurora Borealis | Tromso | 4k kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4aQiIOEp9yhqZY. @@maithreyinair9052thank you! I’m so glad you found the video helpful. Early November is good too. However, we chose late November as we were told the chances of clearer skies are high during that time of the year. Thanks for your comment! Glad you found the information helpful. We’ve also put together this video “Your Northern Lights Guide” which may be helpful and will answer a lot of questions you probably have. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4aQiIOEp9yhqZY We went in November but this is definitely not the only time you can go. As long as you have good weather any time over the winter months will be good. We spent 4 nights in Tromsø. The longer you can stay the more chance you have seeing of the lights. We always book all of our travel ourselves. A large portion of our costs was for the flights from San Francisco, and then we visited Bergen first before flying to Tromsø. If you find a good hotel that serves food that will help keep your costs down as eating out can be expensive. You can also determine how many trips, etc. you do based on your budget. We spent about $800 on hotels, and didn’t rent a car. So our next biggest expenses were the activities we did and internal flight costs. Hope this is helpful.

@@worthytravels thank you for the quick response. I also try to book my trips myself. I just find it more practical and also I have more control over what I would want to do. Weve been to Rovaniemi 2 years ago (via a tour company) and while the experience was excellent, i felt like we “overpaid” since there were many activities that were just duplicates. @admiral7605 I’ve been told between mid October to late November is the best time to see them as there are higher chances of clear skies during these months.
