Teams go through cycles .. When you are in a good cycle you have to capitalise and win trophies otherwise the progress you think you've made will be short lived due to many factors, the main ones being : A.Other teams will get better B.Your top players will leave for clubs that win things Classic case was Spurs under Poch, so it is actually in Arsenal's best interests to say Utd had a better season cause long term not winning trophies is not sustainable.

If we win the Prem next season but are still terrible in the cup in terms of Arteta not taking it seriously, will that be satisfactory or will there still be some dissatisfaction with Arteta. There was the Leicester season (we could have). Years where we just faded in February. There was even last year where we came short! But there was something about this time where we came out empty handed but I can finally feel it (that we are close). Nearly 30 and haven’t seen a league….. I don’t count leagues won when I was wearing nappies and learning to ride a bike with stabilisers, so ofc didn’t understand - was too young. The moment we win the next league will be huge for people like James and myself and all fans under 30. Of course it will be huge for the amazing fans who have also seen a league or more! The FA CUP 2014 was insane…. If arsenal win a league north london and central will be the definition of shut down. I will store my flares for another year because it’s coming ladies and gentlemen. Arsenal have been progressing well for some years now, from top to bottom we can see improvement. Next season I think is a must for one big thing and that is for Arsenal to learn how to sell players because I don’t remember the last time we sold a player for a decent amount. You undervalue the point of a tournament style trophy. The whole point is that if you really are “that team” during a league format, you also should be able to win at any given moment outside of the league vs any kind of opponent.

18:30 No one is entitled to trophies. Not even City. They can strongly expect to win titles but they aren't entitled to them. Hence why they only have 1 UCL since UAE/Abu Dhabi took over. We can have high expectations though. A top 2, a Carabao, an FA and a UCL semi run is acceptable for me. That's also progress. We added 5 pts from last season. 3 defeats or less, and more wins maybe we win the league. The Carabao is important for me because it will allow us to kick on more than a Dubai holiday mid-season. Then a semis UCL run, a Top 2 league finish preferably Top 1 and an FA will be brilliant.

If Arsenal reach the halfway mark on 40 points again you can forget it. The only team to stop City in the last 7 seasons had 55 points after 19 games. That's what Arsenal will need. Not 50. Not 45. I totally agree, the potential difficulty of the Premier League next season and how close it will be is being slightly underestimated. And the eight matches in the Champions League's league phase could be a huge factor in that. Imagine if Arsenal are drawn to play away against Real Madrid, Manchester City, AC Milan and Barcelona, and at home against Liverpool, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Aston Villa. There would be no real opportunity for rotation of players in either the Premier League or Champions League fixtures because two draws or losses in either competition could be too much to make up or put you in a playoff double legged tie. Basically Arteta might just have to ask his best 11 players to be warriors and pray they don't get injured. Crazy to think about.

Of course I don't know if this is exactly how the the Pots will be in reality. Borussia Dortmund could win the Champions League, so go into Pot 1, and maybe the UEFA coefficient ranking of each club might mean Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund are in Pot 1 anyway. Also UEFA could restrict teams from the same country playing against each other so Arsenal might not face Premier League clubs at all.
