This is amazing! I am doing my master's paper on tropical geometry and there are some areas that you talked about that I have not even researched so this video really helped me understand those things. Thanks for posting this

Thank you very much! I was searching for something on tropical geometry and found your video :) It is very helpful! Where should I look to understand the correspondence between the abstract and the embedded tropicalizations better?

Hello, I'm doing a paper on tropical geometry, do you know where I can find an efficient program to compute the graph of tropical curves ?

Yes please. I am also doing my dissertation on geometry of tropical curves

I think you made this talk approachable. Cheerful Calculations 🧮

How did the tropical geometry come about? As far as I know, there were many disparate observations. Isn't it, that one makes a logarithmic substitution z -> log|z|. This gives nice amoebae drawings which, when base of the logarithm is run to infinity... (www.maths.ed.ac.uk/~v1ranick/papers/gelkapzel.pdf) Strange. It says 4 Comments and mine is invisible. That's why I posted again a slightly incremented version. If @Maeline Brandt has problem with accuracy of any of this, why not let me know?

That link goes to a 404 - do you have the name of the paper so I can look it up or a corrected link?

@@conoroneill8067 I glued the ")" to the link, sorry. www.maths.ed.ac.uk/~v1ranick/papers/gelkapzel.pdf

😮The adjective "tropical" was coined by French mathematicians in honor of the Hungarian-born computer scientist who lived and worked in Brazil at the time Prof. Imre Simon, who wrote on the field. Simon, Imre (1988). "Recognizable sets with multiplicities in the tropical semiring". Mathematical Foundations of Computer Science 1988. Lecture Notes in Computer Science. Vol. 324. pp. 107-120. doi:10.1007/BFb0017135. ISBN 978-3-540-50110-7.
