Binh House
.........
Amidst rapid urbanization, Vietnamese cities have distanced themselves from their origins as low-density tropical green spaces.
Binh House by Vo Trong Nghia Architects (VTN Architects) is a part of the "House for Trees" series, introducing a prototype housing design that integrates green spaces within high-density urban neighborhoods.
The three-generation family residing in the house posed a unique challenge: creating spaces that facilitate interaction and communication despite generational differences.
The vertically stacked gardens, enclosed by sliding glass doors, enhance microclimates, utilize natural ventilation, and promote visibility and interaction among family members.
Living, dining, bedrooms, and a study room seamlessly connect, allowing sightlines to extend through gardens.
Service areas like the kitchen and bathrooms are strategically placed to minimize heat exposure.
The varying vertical spaces maintain natural ventilation as surrounding houses are built, ensuring the house remains cool in the tropical climate without heavy reliance on air conditioning.
Roof gardens provide shade, reducing indoor temperatures, and also support vertical farming for daily needs.
Utilizing sustainable materials, including natural stone, wood, and exposed concrete, along with microclimate considerations, the house significantly reduces operational and maintenance costs.
The architecture goes beyond functional and aesthetic considerations, serving as a medium to connect people with each other and with nature.
