The historic hotel and casino in Las Vegas was imploded in a controlled blast overnight to make way for a new ballpark for the Las Vegas Athletics.

That place 'Vegas' was WAY better when the Mob ran it. We had cheap good drinks and hotel prices, too many quality buffets that were also cheap and spectacular Shows with Showgirls that kicked your lights out but like everything else they ruin, Corporate Progressives took over.

I've been in the Tropicana hotel many times. I've got family who live in Las Vegas. What a great place, but WOW a legendary hotel is gone. ❤

I wish they would conserve (update) old Vegas hotels instead of tearing them down and building something completely new and even out of place for the strip. You’re tearing down history/nostalgia. Sometimes, that’s what brings ppl out to Vegas. I loved seeing the older casino’s and hotels when I’ve been out there.

Unfortunately, things like that cost money. You’d need to have a prospective buyer. When you do, things get more complicated. You need to figure out: services (e.g. Fire alarms, electricity, groundskeeping, security, POS systems, etc.), staff (hiring, training, payroll), inspections (elevators, building, health, fire, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.), supplies (food, first aid, utensils, cleaning products, batteries, textiles, paper, pens, etc.), contractors for renovations/construction for the museum portion, repairs, insurance, reservations, the list goes on. And for a hotel the size of this, we’re talking 6, maybe 7 figures for all that. Don’t forget: you have to make a return on the investment to keep the place afloat. Logistically, it’s not feasible unless you’re a large company and not just a small group wanting to go big. Unfortunately, just because it’s featured in a movie or has connections to someone/something famous or old or historic or unique doesn’t necessarily make it worth saving. You can’t have a museum for everything either, some things are better off as exhibits in museums and not standalone museums. Rat Pack is probably more of an exhibition than a museum in and of itself, or at least not one in something as big as (part of) the hotel.

I worked as an EVS floor manager at Tropicana from '09 to '12. Mr. Alex Yemenijian was owner at that time. He completely renovated the casino and hospitality areas in all white marble, etc. Nikki Beach had a huge space at the time. Even 'Let's Make A Deal' with host Wayne Brady was being filmed on property. Great times. As they say, "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas"

Stupid place to build a baseball stadium. It's at the worst intersection in Vegas. If a game and an event at either t-mobile or mgm are scheduled together, the traffic will be impossible.

Was just there. Stayed right there at the OYO again and HJ. Would’ve stayed for the implosion but already been traveling for a hard 3 weeks in LA looking a homes and Vegas for 5 days. It would’ve been cooler if they demolish the whole building at once but they just demolished the frames that’s all that were left for about a month now, you could see right through the floors and the levels they put the explosives at.
