Love the single circle hook idea, i will be trying this. I've thought a pair of trebles was medieval for years now and struggled with back to back singles etc.

Thanks, we are trying to capture one of the bigger 40lb specimens that we've seen this season.. One the size of a croc followed my salmon lure right to the bank in late March and scared the crap out of me.... I'll be sure to upload the video. :)

Good vid, some fish of a lifetime there! Very simple rig. I personally like fishing the fly for pike but I have to admit I'm struggling in the winter, all the more frustrating as I'm trying to compile a pike fly youtube vid myself🤣👍
@wye-fisher3 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked it; as you can tell, it was all shot "live on the bank" and cut into something interesting (hopefully) with no frills....! But that's fishing isn't it? If you're anywhere near the West country, I would love to get some tips on fly fishing for Pike otherwise I'll just have to wait for your vid. Cheers

@@wye-fisher ha ha! I don't think I'm the bloke to ask for tips, I've fluked a few from the local canal but last winter was hopeless. I want to put out a pike fly vid but I've not enough action in the can yet! I'm based in North west but would love to try the wye sometime. You tube channel is soul trader 57 BTW mostly fly fishin. If you're interested. 👍

One of my best days ever. I think the trick was to keep moving.... No more than 15 mins in a swim; if they were having it they would take , if not? Move on......

@@wye-fisher definitely worked for you 👍 If you don’t mind me asking how were you hooking the dead’s on the circle hooks, through the eyes, tail, back or another way
@wye-fisher4 жыл бұрын
We, [that's the fishery owner and I], found that when trotting downstream with a slow retrieve it was best to put the hook up through the head from the lower jaw. (Large size 2/0 at least for this or you cover too much of the hook) so it 'swims' better and through the tail for static bait. The Wye is usually quite coloured so presentation is not so important. Hope this helps.

You should do well as the river is absolutely perfect right now, the only drawback, on connecting with one of the big old girls, is the number of 12 to 20lb fish that keep taking the bait!

Sorry, I think the adrenalin rush from that big fish was too much..... We are going after the even bigger ones this weekend, 25/26th Nov. 2023, now that the river is "just right" so get your ear-plugs ready :)

Welcome aboard! We had another 5 fish to 18lb a week later but as the river dropped back after that they seemed to disperse and became harder to find.... Is there a lesson to be learned here?

Sorry Phil but soft violins or plinky plonky would have been worse, but not as bad as the live soundtrack of two old farts grunting, effing and geoffing... 😂

@@tbrownhill Hello Tony, I'm sorry to say that this fishery only allows a few regular anglers to fish for the pike, but other species are abundant though as you will see from my videos!! Google Aramstone Beat.... However, there are many beats that have hardly been touched for pike and here is one of many day ticket waters www.fishingpassport.co.uk/fishing/middle-wye/the-creel Here I had an 8lb Grilse snatched by a fish over 4 foot long a few years back :) Best area on this section is upstream of where the footpath from the Church parking meets the river at a metal gate; you will see what I mean when you get there! Deep, slow moving water that weaves in and out of the overhanging tree roots. Be brave and drop a dead-bait it there but do NOT put the rod down :) :) Tight lines...
