We explore the volcanic crater and the surrounding area. Including the perfect baker, an awesome vegetable shop, the De Chazel house, the Eiffel tower, and a sneak peek at the Botanical gardens. We even tried our hand at some Geocaching. It is a great day out.
Enjoying the dramatic head over to the rugged, wild coast of Gris Gris: • Gris Gris beach Maurit...
Trou Aux Cerfs in Curepipe is an extinct volcano, which means The Deer Hole. The sides were a lot steeper than it looks and it is full of vegetation. It was once home to a sugar cane botanist that had a vineyard and they use to make wine in the caldera. It is now home to the doppler radar station. It has some of the best views I have ever seen in Mauritius. We got the earth cache but couldn't find the box on our Geocaching around the volcano.
At the base of the volcano, there is one of the best vegetable grocers I have seen outside of the markets. It is a great concept that is part of the reduction of plastics. Across the road is the best bread bakery, we didn't get any bread, as they had just sold out and the new bread was still in the oven, but we did get some small chicken pies. They were fantastic. Small bite-size pastries, flaky and buttery, with a full chicken, flavoured filling, a great on the move snack.
The Botanical gardens were closed as was the Dodo Club, but the beautiful old De Chazel house was open. It is now a shop that sells carpet, jewelry, trinkets, and cashmere stuff. The great thing about the shop is that they are helping to preserve the house in its former glory. They even have an Eiffel Tower in the back garden that is a lot bigger than I thought it would be.
The whole area is worth a visit.
If you want to see the crater at the bottom check 'Let's Discover Mauritius' video here:

We are saving up to get a drone, so we can show you more from the places we visit. Help the cause by buying a coffee. You can also get a free copy of Riki's art of the day here:

You guys are great. Love the way you guys soak into the Mauritian way of life and especially the food. Need more people like you guys in this world, always happy, cheerful and appreciate the beauty of the island that us Mauritians take for granted.

Nice Vlog Bryan and Thank you for featuring the Doppler Radar (Solid State). I was one of those involved in building the radar tower way back 2016-2018. Indeed the building is massive. You can also get the best view on the 6th level (360deg. view of Mauritius) where the rotating antenna is also located.

Wow..Lovely view and amazing discoveries with regards to the perfect bakery, the environment-friendly fruit and veg shop and the de Chazal House. Curepipe was never a favourite spot of mine when I lived in Mauritius, mainly because of the predictable weather, as you could guarantee an abundance of rainfall on a daily basis ! However, you have changed my views and would definitely call there during my next visit. Ten rupees for a visit to the loo ! Sounds reasonable. I wish the authorities would do something about improving the sanitary condition of many of the public toilets, and also provide more facilities. .

Thanks for the great comment. We did get lucky with the weather, almost no rain the whole day. I don't mind paying a little for the toilet if it will help keep them in good condition.
