Dear John, You always give a more rounded view of the how and why. Excellent. Keep up the great work. Ten minutes with your 'on the fly' observations is pure gold to us boracic shed dwellers. Particularly on how to get a cheap machine working well. God bless, also thanks to your man for the DTI videos.

John, that comment about machined it with an angle grinder is great. Goes to prove we don't always need to machine to +/- 0.0001 tolerances to get something to work. Regards; Ron

Great looking mill love the way this has performed over the years john,I noted your comments about buying one what would be the maximum you would pay for one if one come up without the DRO and with no tooling the only thing it has got is the cabinet and quick traverse scruffy condition..??Any help would be appreciated.

I had wondered what brand and size your mill is. You have answered my questions. If you are still using the white water drain into the bucket, why not put a small sump pump in the bucket to pump it back to the lathe.

I think these were a Clausing design? I have seen several 1930ish to 1960/70 light mills that were pretty close. I have a lot of hours on one, not a bad machine for the money.

Hi John It's Dee in Thailand. I had to buy a lathe from Thailand second hand cos the cost of shipping a second hand one comes to too much . It's a 10 inch swing Taiwan lathe and was advised not to buy a Chinese one. Iv'e yet to clean it all up and only time will tell. But I have a question. Do you milling is more skilled than turning? I think it is

Hi John do you have a drawing or any dimensions for the riser you made, I have a 626 really like the riser idea, I had to re-bearing the spindle on mine it was very rough looked like the bearings had been beaten in.
@doubleboost
@doubleboost 10 жыл бұрын
My riser is 5 1/2 inches tall If you join the 626 group there is a drawing there All the hole centres are different on each machine I made paper templates of mine Regards John

I have an early version of that mill, made in 1979 in Taiwan under the name Hong Da. Looking to find or make a 3-4" riser block for mine. OD of the riser would be about 7 3/32". Can't find a ready made piece, thought of making it from heavy wall steel pipe. Only 8" od pipe is commonly available. Wouldn't be able to turn the od to size on my 10" lathe. If any one can offer help in finding a riser or suitable stock to make one from I would be grateful. Thanks.
