I really like the Jayco model! Unfortunately, the wet bath is a deal killer for us. Bathroom in the EKKO and Cross Trail are so much nicer.

We agree 💯 The overall design of the Jayco is great besides the bathroom.

Unlike the Ekko, the Granite Ridge has a window in the entry door so you can scan for zombies before stepping out.

Haha good point! Definitely got us thinking about adding one to our Ekko, as well as a rear window in the bedroom like the granite ridge.

Hey, great to catch up to the two of you at the Ekko rally! Thanks for the nursing advice to our daughter in nursing school. Sorry I missed your mod tour, did not realize you had one till the next day. Hope to see on the road in our respective Ekko's! John and Terri

It was great to catch up with you all too! We are actually going to get a mod tour video done in a week or so to share everything with everyone who didn’t get to see it or wasn’t there. So stay tuned! 😂 Hope to see you all on the road too!

Thanks for watching and the kind words! Van & RV tours really are not our thing, but we just wanted to give some quick tours of some new rigs while we were at the show for some other events. We really like to do tours of custom van builders and small companies, since they put a lot more pride into their units and use much better materials/ components. The fridge is 12v. The majority of vans and class c’s are going that route now we have seen in the last few years. With big lithium systems it’s definitely the way to go.

On the Ekko the propane is used for heating. Not in this case as it has the gas hydronic system. The propane os only used for outside such as the quick connect or the optional outdoor kitchen.
@NealBritt9 ай бұрын
That is correct. The granite ridge has a Timberline Hydronic system 💯

Both are definitely great reasons to like it. 👍

I remember going into the Crosstrail a couple years ago at the Hershey show and thinking the materials were 1 to 2 levels below the Ekko's. Not that the Ekko is LTV brand level quality, but I felt like I was in a "discount Ekko". The Chinook was interesting, but not sure I'd like the rear door entry, though I think that's what they're typically known for
@NealBritt10 ай бұрын
That’s how we feel about the cross trail too. If they refined the look and quality of materials a bit, it would be a serious competitor to possibly beat out the Ekko. It comes in at a great price point and has more lithium amp hours, the lift, and the bull bar on the extreme package. So that is really nice. We are glad the chinook is back and they have some big things planned. The quality appears to be top notch and the systems are top of the line. The door at the back is what they are known for, you are correct about that, but it definitely is different. It unique and is a great placement at some camping locations, but definitely could be tough if your a person that frequents campgrounds. Out on public lands it wouldn’t be a point of concern I don’t think though. In the end we are still choose our Ekko, but if the team at chinook came out with a floor plan we liked and made it more aggressive/ off road capable we may be envious.

Neal and Brit, I like the Granite Ridge dinette, plus it stays under 23ft. The Sprinter EKKO has a similar dinette but adds 1.5ft. What are your thoughts about the extra length ? Do you think it would hamper parking around town?
@roslolian1110 ай бұрын
Lol how would he know he doesn't know you or where you live. Why don't you check your town and see if your parking spots can accommodate 25 ft? Maybe his town can accommodate 25 ft but yours can't, only you can find that out. The average parking space in US is 18 ft so this won't fit every parking slot.
@NealBritt10 ай бұрын
The Granite Ridge is a nice unit. Jayco did a good job. We love our transit Ekko, so we are a little bias though. 😂 The sprinter Ekko is nice. The added length we don’t like and will definitely be a hassle in regular parking spots (we can still park our transit Ekko in regular spots overhanging). But most of the time we will double park at Walmart, in plazas, etc near the back of the lot. So for the sprinter Ekko it wouldn’t be a huge issue. But we truly enjoy the 23ft and under length. We will have a tour of the sprinter Ekko coming, but we kept it a basic tour like this video. We want people to see it, but check out the true specs on their own to make an informed decision.

I like the Cross Trail, #1 reason it has a black tank, I have never had a cassette toiIet but 4.75 gallons seems like you couldn't use it for more than 2 or 3 days before you were dealing with that mess. would like the floor plan better with a couch instead of dinette
@NealBritt10 ай бұрын
A couch instead of a dinette would be much better for sure! We went from having a black tank in our class b to the cassette toilet in our Ekko and we thought it would be a problem. We have actually come to really enjoy the cassette (more options to dump it like in a pit/vault toilet at trailheads or in a regular toilet), but the capacity is definitely the limiting factor. Normal use for the two of us gives us 2.5 to 3 days. So when boondocking it definitely can get annoying having to drive to the nearest toilet or dump station. The cross trail in the xtreme package comes in at a great price to compared to all the others in the same crowd like the granite ridge, Ekko, etc. it’s definitely a solid unit.

Crosstrail lacks 4-season capability
@NealBritt10 ай бұрын
@arisdaddy2001 Indeed. It definitely needs a ton of work to make it 4 season capable. We’ve seen a few owners do it, but it’s a ton of work. Our Ekko has done pretty well and for the most part stays true to the claim, but could use more insulation in a few areas for extreme cold. We have had it in the teens plenty of times though with no issues, so we are pretty happy with it.

Note that both the Coachmen and the Jayco have failed to add at least one three-point harness seatbelt for a rear passenger. That's a deal breaker for me. Unpopular opinion, that this should be the law that rear passenger seats must be front or rear-facing and have a three-point seatbelt to be a legal riding position, just like the law is most of Europe.
@NealBritt8 ай бұрын
We agree for the most part, but unless you have an additional sleeping area like the pop top on the Ekko, it is very tight for more than two people. Maybe two adults and 1 kid can work out fine if you make the bed into the king size configuration (which then that 3 point seat belt comes into play). We have had a passenger once in almost a year and a half to just run to the store. So it really is a use factor. The majority of Ekko owners we have met only travel with their spouse or significant other. A few owners that do travel with a kid or two have the pop top version. I think the target buyer is someone that travels with just a spouse, friend, etc. Two people, for the Ekko non pop top, Granite Ridge, and entegra Condor. The coachmen since it has multiple floor plans is more for a family so that definitely should have three point seatbelts or have the option. Really all should have the option.

Love the competition, but I still think the EKKO has them beat. Now that Winnebago also has a Sprinter EKKO they are still the leader in this type of RV. BTW, TV located in front is a bad location and we moved ours to the bedroom almost immediately.
@NealBritt10 ай бұрын
We agree for sure! 💯 We don’t have one in the front ourselves, a useless spot in our opinion with how close the seats are to it. In the Jayco it’s a little more spacious so it may be okay for some I guess, but not in the Ekko transit. In the Ekko sprinter it is definitely more functional in the front.
