As a white boy who loves nasty funk, I saw these brothers jam at least a dozen times at the original 9:30 Club. Always a packed house with everyone dancing for hours. Great memories. Real DC history.

these guys are an example of what DC Public School education used to have every neighborhood in the city had their own band because of the music programs in the school. every neighborhood had their own GoGo band

True. This is how it used to be. Then certain people decided that the public schools or "urban" schools weren't good enough for their kids. They moved away, withdrew their tax dollars, or stayed and started voting to de-fund the public schools. Next thing you know, the music programs disappear from the public schools. Meanwhile, those other folks' kids got the best of everything at their private, "magnet", or charter schools. Fast-forward 25 or so years later and those kids are the adults claiming they're "saving the music." Who are they? Think Dap-Tone. Think Snarky Puppy. Think Vulpeck. Folks gotta pay attention!

@@Odawg96 Sadly, not completely true. "Music class" has disappeared from almost every schools' class lineup. Nobody gets it. That's why kids can't play instruments any more and "high school rock band" has become an anachronism.

@@caribman10 It might depend on where you are. There are school bands in the Baltimore-Washington area, though not everyone has them. Full-time music teachers/band instructors are hard to find. I’ll meet you in the middle of the road: for today’s generation studying music is a LUXURY.

This stuff stopped a gang war when I took it up to Summermath with me. Mt Holyoke was Ivy League, but I got to hang with the Puerto Rican kids there for Upward Bound. I got permission to play in town and they warned me of a game against their Black rival team. LOL I was done with that mess and took some DC Go-Go on a tape recorder as usual. By the end of the game, my tape was on a red team's GINORMOUS disco boom box and no fight. "Shorty, what up with that?" I was like, IDK, PR likes me?

Willie Waycup Outside of Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers, you will not find a tighter, more cohesive go-go style funk sound in music history. These guys are standard bearers for the go-go genre, and can certainly hold their own against many of the bigger more commercialized bands.
