UPDATE: I fixed my 1990's Astron RS-20 by replacing the bridge rectifier (KBPC3502, TME Electronics, $1.44 ea). I also bought a tube of heat sink putty from Amazon. Thanks again for your video!

The Yaesu Ft891 is rated at 23A current draw, and that is a 20A power supply. Perhaps that contributed to the failure.

Yep very true! I think that was it, I typically run it at 100W for phone/voice. With the new rectifier, I"m running at 40W with FT8 and just had contacts with Russia, Canada, Japan, I think that's as high as I'd want to go with it in FT8.

Nice, thanks! I think I'll skip the varistor check and go right for the rectifier swap on mine. Same thing- turn on and fuse blows instantly.

The caption is misnamed but it’s a nicely done video.

KZbin on my phone failed to report that my reply was entered so I hit submit a few times to be sure! Sorry. I hope I deleted all the duped. Again nicely done.

Originally I wanted, How I Troubleshot..., but that was too long for mobile users, What would a better caption be?
