A really great series - despite being almost 30 years old it has worn the years superbly well and is just as relevant today. Reminds me that John Harvey-Jones was really the greatest on screen trouble shooter. A wonderful man.

I used to work for Apricot Computers whom John visited in this series in episode 3. This Country's greatest contributor to the Computer Industry who gave us speech recognition on PC's, wireless mouse and keyboards, the 3.5 inch floppy drive which at the time was better than the old 9 inch and was used for ages afterwards. The operating system was faster than normal DOS...lots more besides. Yes the BBC should revisit this series.

I remember him coming round Vincent Drive, then soon after that they renamed the company back to ACT to try and sell off the 'loss-making hardware business' total coincidence of course.

I worked in ICI for several years and as a junior/middle manager I along with others was sent on management courses from time to time in an attempt to meld this unlikely material into something effective. Well on one of these courses in London who should appear but Sir John himself! There was none of this "look at me I'm the CEO of one of the greatest companies on earth" kind of thing. He came in and sat right down among us and started to chat to each one of us in turn. He then suggested we all swap seats so that we could talk to somone different and as he said, "maybe learn something you didn't know". What a guy and that laugh!

I think, like a lot of similar shows from that time, there would be issues with clearance as most participants were not paid for their appearances.

Wow i am only in my 20s, but i am so surprised that the shareholder is honest about not knowing manufakturing! I have the feeling that that kind of honesty is not there anymore today.

It isn't unfortunately. People are simple not sincere anymore. Instead, now they are full of BS. You may have gathered from this 1980's footage that people of today are less mature and tend to be just overgrown children..in general.

Well, smart man, but I understand that he contributed to the mess and to sinking the boat "all the manufacturing chain ladies are gone" what an achievement
