Thanks for your nice video. As a suggestion if you make font size a lit bit larger and go in slower pace because teaching in high speed is discouraging .

We want this to be useful to the folks in field and this is Exactly the kind of feedback we want to help us improve it it for you! I will increase font size and slow the pace up some on the next videos.

You should make a troubleshooting hard copy publication for heat pumps and sell it, i would buy it without thinking twice

Hey!!! I started HVAC & R in 1988. I still use a water Manometer. Where's my sling Psychrometer? Oh never mind. I'll just cut off part of my shoelaces and make one with my mercury filled thermometer.

Water U-Tubes and mercury thermometers never go out of calibration! We started about the same time, I was late '86. I remember wrapping my mercury thermo with a piece of paper towel, napkin or TP and then holding it in front of a return grill with the fan on and the heat / cool off. Teach the new generation the old tricks and they'll be sure to succeed! If you have an idea for a video let me know and I'll give you full kudos in it!

I would like to see a video on why heat pumps have issues heating when all temps and pressures are normal , but not heat from indoor evaporator head

Yes that's what I do. Except ~about 2 deg celcius. What else, 1/ get a special "permanent magnet" for test purposes. 2/ NEVER EVER leave an energized coil floating in the air, the lack of solenoid centre will cause it to overheat and cook. 3/ good luck with unbrazing and rebrazing the new one, with wet rags etc, or else it too will get cooked

Great points concerning the test magnet and the cautionary about the solenoid, Nathan!

Good info I have one for u I have a 9000 btu mini split in my bedroom just it's been in there about 2 yrs worked all through the summer I went to turn heat on the unit powers up but the blower or heat does not come on but everything every other mode works what do u think it could be the solenoid not sending power to the Head?

I have a trane that is pulling in to vacuum in AC mode. Works fine in heat. Changed indoor TXV and still doing it. Thinking it's the reversing valve

What causes heat pumps to pump down all the way in cooling?
@kirkpeterson1657
@kirkpeterson1657 4 жыл бұрын
The metering devices (TXV or Orifice) in a heat pump have a bypass check valve that allows the liquid refrigerant to bypass the metering device depending on what mode the system is in )heating or cooling) if the bypass is stuck closed or the metering device is stuck closed, the system will pump down. When it happens in the cooing mode its either the indoor metering device is restricted, or the outdoor metering device's check valve is stuck closed. Let me know if this helps Kodie. Patrick

That would be typically be a liquid line restriction or the suction is blocked. Things to look at; TXV or piston, reversing valve not shifting completely, restricted filter drier.

Where are you getting your information that it is 4°? I’ve been looking for this answer for a while and the variance I’ve been hearing is between three and eight but I’ve never gotten a solid answer and I’m just curious where are you found it. Video very informative

Good question! It's a general reference point to check against. There isn't a set good/bad temperature value for this. I got 4 degrees as a general rule from a manufacturer's diagnostic engineer years ago, and 30+ years of using it as a reference proved it out for me. Keep in mind I don't condemn a valve for being 5,6 or 7 degrees out if the system is working without issues, as we wouldn't be looking at the valve unless there were performance issues that caused us to check the valve. if you see a high temp, try shifting the valve and checking it again. A valve that's leaking by doesn't typically give the same reading after cycling it a couple times. Let me know if there are any other videos you would like to see and I'll give you full credit for the idea in the video!

@@ZenHVAC It takes a God awful amount of variance for it to affect capacity from what I’ve seen. But I agree with you shifting it back-and-forth one of the best ways. Again awesome video. Keep up the good work and thank you for the reply

The condensing unit fan keeps me from accessing the txv valve for temp readings. Can the system be run for 10+ minutes with no condensing fan? Or should I wire my probes to it, reinstall the fan and test?
@ZenHVAC
@ZenHVAC 3 жыл бұрын
The condenser fan needs to be on, install the probes and let the fan run.
