I did that so the students would wire the trainer neatly. The trainer's power comes in on the lower right-hand corner so we just set it up this way as a suggestion for neatness.

Does it matter where the neutral goes on the 120v side? I have a 277v to 120v application. Neutrals can go to any lug?

I think I understand your question and yes. but I would need to look at the diagram to give you a definite answer. I would test it with my multimeter if I wasn't sure.

How about wiring in a Siemens MTO100A Transformer after a 5KVA 230v Pure Sine Wave Inverter Charge controller 48v GVW wiring into Breaker Box 2 Lines 120v @ 100A ? The Solar Inverter is a European 1 Phase 230v 92A at 5000W and I need to wire it to US standard ! I am open to any and all advice !
