one of my Harley buddies built a cool battery pull strap. It was a single piece of 12ga wire and he connected it to both + and - terminals for an easy lift out of the box. easy peasy

Wouldn’t you be shorting out the battery by putting wire from the positive side to the negative side of the battery?

Myself most every motorcycle I had I had a button to push in the solenoid. Just in case I kind of use it to stir up the new oil when I change the oil before I start the bike. And I added an additional ground wire for the relay I always thought it was a little small. Now my motor is a 98 evolution so it is different than yours I've had a few shovels... Haven't watched the video yet but I will this just stirred a few brain cells when I seen the title 🖖✌️🏍️

I add a heavier gauge ground wire also.

@@Rapsgarage So I can just splice a heavier wire onto the existing wire coming out of 85? It is thin looks like a FAIL ready to happen lol. Thanks! I hope you keep posting these great shovelhead videos!
@Rapsgarage2 жыл бұрын
@@rcanoli99 85 is the relay coil so a 16-18 gauge wire will be fine. The wires on the relay contacts will need to be 14 gauge.

What battery are you using? It looks like a FLH battery tray but not a stock FLH type battery?

Here is an ebay link to the battery I used. What was the actual voltage from the starter relay over to the solenoid? would be nice to know.
@Rapsgarage2 ай бұрын
It’s just a set of contacts so what goes in should be what comes out… 12 volts or battery voltage. If you have a voltage drop across the contacts the relay is bad. If you need further help, let me know. Thanks for watching and if you haven’t, please subscribe.

They came off my 77FLH. I believe they are stock Harley mounts

Yes they are stock Shovelhead FLH passenger footpeg brackets, the oem part numbers for the adjustable ones are 52686-77A Right and 52690-77A left I believe.

when you were testing the relay to the solenoid and you had the positive lead on the solenoid, where did you have the negative lead? on the battery or just a ground?
@Rapsgarage Жыл бұрын
I try to always put the negative lead on the negative side of the battery when possible.

At 12.2 volts I would have thought your battery is pretty flat.
