Hans I’ve seen your work off and on in tying/pattern sites; this was the first time I ran across one of your videos. Top quality production! (Which I think is a norm for you.) I was researching a nymph pattern called MRE from several years ago. It’s one I still carry and fish for Grayling and I’m posting a tying instruction sheet. I wanted to make sure I didn’t mis-speak about anything I remembered. Between your name and the visual of the fly I had to check it out. The hare’s foot “hackle/wing” was new to me. Thanks for showing it so clearly. Hope this finds you well and happy. Life is good in the Great Land. All the best Rich

Can't express how much I enjoy your tying videos. Incredibly instructional with little tips around every corner. I'm a newbie. I look to tie flies in the 12 to maybe 18 (a stretch). You usually rely on Bennechi 12/0. I've used 8/0. As a beginner (didn't reveal I'm 65). Would it be a problem (why or why not) if I attempted with your tried and true thread choice?

Own stripped. It may be that you select your quills too low down on the peacock eye feather. The wider, well marked quills are feather barbs found in the brightly colored eye section of the feather, and not the long barbs used to wrap herl bodies and such. Cheers, Hans W

Very nice fly Hans. I need to do some in smaller sizes. Looks like a very nice emerger to play with!! Jeremy.

Hello Jeremy, Richard Ross ties and fishes them in much smaller sizes also, but for the video I opted for a #14 for viewer visibility ;-) Cheers, Hans W

Steve, certainly one can use a biot for the body. I am a bit puzzled on the "hate to waste" peacock fibers. A single peacock eye holds quite a number of these barbs making it a very inexpensive, and easily obtained, option. What am I missing? Cheers, Hans W

Hans- For this particular quill, are you stripping your own quills or buying them pre stripped in packages? I have done it both ways and have found two troubles with it. The first problem when I strip them myself, is that the quills are much thinner and more delicate than the one here, and the banding is not nearly as nice. This lead me to buying them pre stripped in packages, but they were brittle and half were unusable because they were too small. Your thoughts and a source if you buy them?
