@sandrawyrick being the same age I couldn’t agree more. I found Kyle more than 4 years ago because I do fly fishing for trout. He and his relationship with all those “damn good kids” have given so many inspiration to enjoy life.

next time you leave for an extended period of time, cut up Irish Spring soap and put it on plates around the cabin. It will help keep the mice out. It works in our camper over the winter.

I don't know how much help this is, but cotton balls soaked in peppermint oil, will keep mice away. It does work.

we've tried essential oil before but definitely need to try that!! they probably dry out pretty quick though.. we just can't keep these critters out no matter what we do

They still come in, but stay away from the areas with cotton balls/peppermint oil. I have been doing this for years. The oil lasts months if you soak it well.

So glad to see you have decided to stand up to the haters and keep the cabin. Love the snowy beauty...your reward for all your hard work. It's interesting to see the similarities and differences between the forests there and those here in CA. We were in Yosemite Valley for a blizzard two weeks ago. I live farther south, so it was a novelty to experience the snow falling off the trees and the magical vistas of snow covered meadows. I'm quite impressed with Allie's wood chopping chops, lol. :)

When you split wood, start towards the outer edges of the stump, preferably along an age ring. Then work your way in towards the middle, breaking off pieces as you go. I noticed you and Ally try to split those stumps in the middle, which is the hardest way to chop wood.

My wife and I always enjoy watching your incredibly wholesome content. You mentioned something today that caught my attention, “take care of your body and mind first, and everything else will follow”. Being a man of faith that I am, I’m somehow reminded of the Bible verse “But seek first his Kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be added to you.” It makes me curious to know if you are also a man of faith. Regardless, blessings brother!

Watching you go to the river to get water reminded me of a time when I was 13 helping my Dad and his friend pull lumber out of the woods with a team of oxen in the winter. They sent me down to a river with a bucket to get water for them and I fell in! Needless to say I spent the rest of the afternoon sitting in a truck with the heat on till we could go home.

It's always so astonishing to watch your winter videos. I come from generations of tropical Carribean bloodline. I tried snowy winter for the 1st time at 50 in Philadelphia. I loved admiring it from drives in a warm car or watching the snowfall from inside somewhere cozy, but I could never aclamate to the long winters. Had to move back to Florida. I guess we are all different creatures. I appreciate snow through your eyes and your perspective. Thank you for taking this islander along without having to actually be in the frigid cold. It's so beautiful even as I cringe at your cold plunges. Well done. Thank you.

Hey Kyle and Allie, I had a mountain cabin and the only place I could store my bedding that the mice couldn't get into was old vintage steamer trunks. They were designed to keep mice out. I would put a rubber bottom sheet on my beds and that kept the mattresses free of mice droppings, etc. Best of luck.
