Loved the macro shots. Not enough of that on YT. Super enjoyable watch. Maybe between now and the 4 month update, you can do a quick runaround of the upkeep/maintenance of the build (lighting, timing, misting, drainage, etc.) I did see a hole in the back right of the tank in Part 1, but would be interested to see how that is connected etc.

@@TroyGoldberg Can you possibly give me a link to one of them ? I have a old 60 G tank that I am about to start working on. Think 75 G tank/w one foot cut off of the length. I'm just not really happy with the height of it. But I have measured and found that after using 5" of substrate that I can reach the bottom in order to work in the vivarium. This limits how tall the plants can be. So a vivarium like you have where the front comes off would allow for taller plants. Been using a regular 10 G tank for a year just to see if I can keep it alive. No point in doing a 60 G if you can't keep the 10 G alive.

So there’s still moss and leaf litter and sweet pods, micro fauna doesn’t necessarily need dirt and substrate, They need correct conditions and things to feed on... which they have

1st of all, i would surely like update video's on this one. I just got a second hand tank which i want to use for 2 D. leucomelas and i am gonna take this tank as an example to build mine ( coz it looks so awesome!!!). But got some questions... And last one, do you just put the moss on the wood or glue it? Thanx in advance and sorry for the many questions... I just want to make sure i know everything before i start the build.

I know this is an older video but I am wondering about your light placement. I am currently getting ready to replace my lighting with a Skylight mini set up. Are you setting them directly on top, or hanging them ? Are you using any type of controller? I have been able to grow most plants without issue but moss does give me some troubles. At this point I'm thinking the light is too bright as my moss does well in shaded areas and not so good out in the open. This is in an Exo Terra 18w x 24T

Just found your channel, Troy. Love the work you do. But I have a question: 4 months later, how do you think the tank is behaving without an actual substrate. I'm starting a new vivarium in a few weeks and I'm very curious what you think about the foam "substrate"
@TroyGoldberg4 жыл бұрын
So the tank has been setup since December, and honestly I absolutely love it, and have had zero issues with it!
@sunkingpoet4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Troy. That answer is wonderful, but makes my decision much more difficult as I just watched your drip wall video last night and now I want one of those, but I'll have to try to figure out how to incorporate a pump into a slanted bottom tank. Ordering a tank from Protean this week, but now I may just say forget the slanted bottom so I can have some standing water along the edges.

I love this layout of your vivarium, I have two questions though. 1 : If i understand correctly you did not make this vivarium bioactive, how do you keep it clean ? 2: In your build you used this sort of filter material as a drainage layer, how does that work out ? i have 5 tanks right now and all are bioactive. I would like to try a different way of building a new vivarium for my frogs because the vivarium they are in right now seems to become a little to small for them. Because i made these tanks bioactive they do very well, and so i was wondering if that would also be the case if i use your method of the build. Not that i doubt it will work, but will it sustain for a long time. I hope you can give me some answers because i really need to start my build. Greetings from The Netherlands, Stephan.

In my tanks I use mainly cuttings of plants from other established tanks, which have springtails and isopods in there. So the tanks have lots of microfauna.
