Great video. Some notes from my experience (04 Dakota): 1) You don't have to detach the upper shroud from the reservoir tanks, they can come out as one. 2) After detaching the electric fan from the radiator, you can just move it out of the way, leaving the electric harness attached... or detach the harness from above by removing the lower shroud first. My truck had a plastic "splash pan" underneath (attached with those ribbed, plastic push rivets that car mfg's love to use) that I didn't want to remove unless necessary, so coming in from above was easier. 3) The bottom screws on my AC condenser were damn near impossible to get to with the radiator in place. So I waited until after removing the radiator top support beam, that way I could lift the radiator up enough to more easily get to the bottom screws. 4) My model had a smaller "pre-radiator" in front of the AC condenser that had to be detached from the radiator with a couple of screws, as well. It also has piping that attaches to ports on the back passenger side of the radiator. One of the pipes is supported by a small plastic piece that is then screwed into the side of the radiator at the very bottom. I couldn't find a way to get to it with a wrench, so I just cut the plastic... hopefully that little extra support isn't really needed.

LOL Do you know what that is you are calling the. "Pre-radiator"? That is your transmission cooler. Now in the future you can call it by the correct name. Sorry but pre-radiator made me literally LOL

Thank you for making this how to video! My truck has an automatic transmission cooler attached to the front side of the radiator in front of the AC condenser. I ended up with removing the front bumper, which makes the job a lot easier.

Those lines are for transmission cooling on a Dakota with a trailering package. just disconnect them, plug them, and reinstall. Be gentle; the lines have steel fittings, and the openings on the radiator are aluminum; easy to strip.

I found that it may be best to install the electric fan onto the radiator before installing the radiator. If you can detach the electric wire from the fan then you may be able to remove the radiator and fan together, and reinstall together.

What about the transmission oil lines ?
@dc-wp8oc2 жыл бұрын
Excellent video, excellent audio and clear, precise explanation. So, jumped into this and can say that detaching the lower shroud is almost impossible. The placement of the two 10mm screws presents a nightmare on a 2000 Dodge Dakota. I may have missed this but vehicles with auto transmissions have two additional lines, on the passenger side of the radiator, that need to be removed. One of those lines has a single 7mm screw attaching it to the side of the radiator. You will need a prayer to get to this and remove it. Finally, the quality of the Communist Chinese radiator replacement is not the quality of the original.

My 2004 dakota 3.7 V6 doesn’t have the fan clutch /fan blade. Never had it since I’ve owned it 10 plus year and put over 100,000 miles on it. It does have the electric fan though that mounts to the radiator. Just went to replace the radiator and after putting the new Carquest radiator noticed there was no drain plug,l. $230 for a radiator and evidently I have to swap my old one into the new one. Not to mention I have to undo the radiator hoses and transmission lines again as well as those very hard to get too bolts that attach the condenser to the radiator.

I have the tow package, and the smaller condenser deal in the front made it more difficult to pull and install the new radiator. Should make a video of this, but on a dakota/durango with the tow package.

Anyone know about any known electrical issues with the 00’ Dakota? fuel gauge quit working and all of a sudden heat gauge doesn’t work voltage gauge doesn’t work and the oil pressure gauge is stuck at half. Vehicle does not burn oil. Checked and on dipstick it’s still clean and full.

This is not what a 97 Dakota V6 looks like. There is no electric fan, no bottles over the radiator, and the shroud is all one piece clear to the bottom. This procedure is not applicable to a 97 Dakota V6.

The reservoir comes out with two bolts and a couple clips. If you're taking it out anyways why would you take the bottom part of the shroud out first? This just makes sure that you cut your hands up trying to pull it out for no reason
