I have done a lot of my own mechanical work on my vehicles and motorhome to save a lot of money. This is the first however changing the CV joint due to a broken ABS time ring and since you can't buy just the $10 ring it is part of the entire joint. I was nervous but after using the video as my guide I was done in 1 hour! Thank you for the informative and detailed video👊!

Perfect description. Looked at other videos and have the Haynes manual too for a job I'd never done. My TRQ axles and this TRQ video perfectly explained the procedure to both get everything off and reinstalled, including accurate torque specs. Their passenger side video was also spot on, suggesting a small sledge hammer to separate the face the of the inner CV joint from the intermediate shaft. The only thing I'd add is to potentially lightly lubricate the seals with some grease before inserting the drive axles, and seat the new driveaxle using the old driveaxle/hub nut first, back it off, then seat the new driveaxle/hub nut to the specified 258 ft-lbs. The new driveaxle/hub nut must be tightened within five minutes so the locking chemical is properly activated. Having an impact wrench for this job is an almost must-have to get everything off. I also had to buy a pricey new torque wrench that accommodated that much torque. Be aware that removing the passenger side CV axle is just separating the CV joint from the intermediate shaft, not removing it from the transaxle.

Great video. I’ve taken on doing as much of mechanical work I can for my sons 2012 edge (college car) this video was very helpful. Looks like this is easier to do if it is on a lift as opposed to just jacking up the driver side, but it is still doable. Getting the axel out of the transmission was a little bit of a pain to try to get a good leverage point to pry it out. Use a thick screwdriver or prybar and you can get it from the left side. Also, if both front tires aren’t off the ground when you’re replacing this, the wheel won’t spin, so don’t panic lol. Lost about a cup of fluid, just replaced it once I was done. Thanks for the great video.

Well done, to the point & no extras. My cv axle manufacturer advises against putting nut on with power tool.

Can you do a video on replacing the internal CV seal? It looked good here, but common failure point

I just replaced my wheel bearings 😢 only to hear the same noise . I had take my car to 2 different mechanics that said it was wheel bearings . Guess I would have paid more anyway . Well off to get cv axles so I can stop this noise . Lots of fun . Looks easier than changing the bearings .

+Carl H Thanks for watching our video! When we have a vehicle in the shop it is usually used for multiple videos so it is more than likely another installation we did at the same time. 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ

There is nothing on the 2015. Is the 15-18 the same as 14?

Yours popped right out.. mine is stuck in somehow. Won't pry. I drilled holes into it, and it wont even winch out... ready to just scrap it.

Just had my drivers side CV axle shaft replaced on my 2006 Escape and noticed that transmission fluid was leaking from it. Could this be the axle seal that is causing it or is it just excess fluid from when the old one was taken out? When I looked underneath the car where the axel went into the transmission, I noticed that the only wet spots on that area were at the bottom of where it goes into the transmission.

Just to be safe a 5min video will turn to a almost 2 hour job without of course the lift.

believe it or not. It's pretty simple on these cars. I just did driver and passenger side of the weekened in my drive way with hand tools in under and hour.

Thanks for sharing. If you’re on you’re on your back losing the will to live trying to figure out where to pry… it’s about 7-8 o’clock looking at the wheel using the upper part of the casting web. Also if you’re doing this on your drive, be prepared to drop about 2L of gear oil. 🫠

My strut expanded past the bolt holes. Do I need to raise the entire front end or can I just raise the drivers side?
How are you supposed to do 258ft lbs? No one has any torque wrenches that go that high

How would you know if your cv axle was bad?
@TRQ3 жыл бұрын
+KT Thanks for checking us out! The most common symptoms of a failing CV axle will be loud clicking when you are turning the wheel, grease coming from the boots, and a vibration while driving. If you are experiencing these symptoms it would be best to take this to a reputable mechanic to have them look into this to ensure the axle is the part causing these symptoms.

@@TRQ Thanks I will do just that because I'm experiencing a rattling sound.

My ford is a pain, old cv axle came out smooth. Introduced the new one and it went halfway in, would NOT move inward anymore, decided to take out but still would not budge. What could have made it get stuck halfway??? 3 days of hammering cv axle trying to pry it out 🥲☠️☠️😭
