Is it? If you don't have the space, you don't have the space. You may have to hang back and wait a long time, but sooner or later either traffic will see what's going on and make room or there'll be a gap. You may get the finger a time or two, or some horn, but that's much better than getting into a pickle like this where one wrong move may cost you your job. Credit where it's due, buddy did a hell of a job getting out of that jam and I applaud him for it. BUT, I bet you in the future, he'll wait as long as he has to in order to make sure this doesn't happen again.

This happened to me once in the Bronx. My GPS told me to get off the highway at the wrong exit, and the fun immediately began. And for extra spice and excitement, I was in a commercial area. I almost took out a street lamp making a left turn. I had to get out and put my tandems all the way up in order to make the turn. Folks, DO NOT EVER use Co-Pilot as your trucking GPS. Nothing but garbage. I can't tell you how many times it has put me in stressful situations.

Always had a great experience! For those do not understand how we get in this mess, we are visitors, and can get lost, just like everyone else. I found myself in an apartment complex in NJ at 2AM once. Missed my Jersey jug handle. If you don't know what that is, neither did I until I seen it. He could've swung a little wider but with his tandems that far forward he probably was worried his tail swing would clip the cars parked/passing on the other side. On the other hand Western Express doesn't have the best rep. for hiring the best. Edit: Everything looks easier looking down on it, it's a different perspective in that seat. I’ve been in these predicaments a few times and man I remember every second of them your anxiety and frustration can cripple you in these moments if you don’t remain calm and the ass holes around you make it 10xs worst! This is where you have to enter your bubble and block out everything and everyone that’s interfering with your focus. Days, weeks, months & years later you’ll always be thankful for these moments believe it or not they give you all the confidence you need for future situations and they help you become a better driver.

I would set out my triangles on opposing traffic sides, then back up to try to get the tandems as far right as possible maybe even sliding the tandems all the way forward just to be able to make that turn (correcting the weight later). At least the flip flop guy was making a left turn and not a right turn. This is pretty tricky but if a peterbilt 385 truck can do it I know any other truck can do it.

He's doin right. Getting out to look, staying calm while unhelpful 4 wheelers make the situation worst. Funny you mention that, because I remember truckers talking to me in a bookstore about how, in Iraq, they were told to deliver an envelope put into an empty 55 foot trailer, 100 miles in a hostile zone full of IEDs. (Private contractor truckdrivers.) It was insane and a scandal, because the corporations was promised a cost + model, where the Gov' will compensate every service double - including lost of equipment and repairs. (That one envelope was considered a full haul.) Dangerous, unethical, yet paid well. The drivers that told me this quit immediately after the first tour contract was over.

Imma say this as a truck driver whose been in the game for 3 years: You gotta trip plan. I took that for granted when i was training driving for Prime. My trainer kept telling me to trip plan by looking at the route on the trucker gps. He said to not rely on the gps and to never become a gps truck driver. Learn your route before you drive that truck. And yes every truck driver uses a gps; but we have to always look at the traffic patterns on the main interstates, state hwys, etc. but as for this driver, he has no business on a residential street like this. Ive been in similar situations and its def nerve wrecking because we have to use all of our brains and skills to get outta tight situations like this. Always slide ur tandems all the way up to the 5th hole or shorter for situations like this; or swing wide.

What truck drivers often don't get is that you can orient the cabin past 90 degrees to the trailer, and back up this will actually make the trailer go forward; then you can go back to a more normal position and go forward. It might have worked here, I don't know the exact layout of the road and characteristics of the truck and trailer though.

i've worked for outfits where ALL their freight is in places you "cant get to" after a while you relax, study the situation, make adjustments, walk back and ask cars behind you to kindly be helpful, call a cop and ask for assistance, most of all- look at your route turn by turn the night before on the internet! you may see an easier way in these places from a different angle. talk to other drivers who have been there, use every inch of real estate, even sidewalks if need be. i hauled long 120 foot loads and had to use the left oncoming lane (and a little sidewalk) for my approach- swing across the entire intersection and use a little of the sidewalk on the left side of the street i was turning into and still just squeezed past the building on the corner with my trailer on the right as it creeps across the inside turn sidewalk! i called the police ahead of time and asked them to be present and told them what i needed ahead of time the next trip thru there ...and they were happy to oblige . dont be shy, you have a job to do .GET'R DONE 😆

Rough situation, for sure, especially with that cow catcher adding length to an OTR tractor. Props to the driver, for not losing his/her cool and abortingvthe turn attempt! Any driver, that's been out there awhile, has been in a tight area, that's made for a very difficult day. Y'all STAY SAFE OUT THERE.

If you are driving for Western Express have semi truck GPS of your own. Once the directions are input into the company GPS, input it into your own semi truck GPS. Take a look at where you are going first. Click line by line please double check it on your GPS

@@lintangsinatriyo4444 According to experts, you should refrain from wearing flip-flops while you drive. The reason is that these shoes can slip off the gas or brake pedals and get jammed against them. In addition, flip-flops may not provide enough support for you to hit the brakes quickly enough to stop your car.....via the internet dumbass

I was in the same situation as a rookie with western too in a street like this in NJ though I had a international the only difference but I corrected myself I backed up the same way I came in backed up some more then fixed myself for a wider turn I had a lot of 4 wheelers behind me like him I just threw my flashers on and let the air horn go off they knew what time it was 🤣🤣 Western express sends you through the depths of hell to avoid tollways if they can 💀 or accepts loads in absolute insane places

As someone who's been an o/o, driving a sleeper with a 53' trailer and now driving a 65 ton lowboy, with a day cab that measures out to 76' long this driver definitely could've made this turn if he started from the right lane. This was just due to being inexperienced. Driving in NYC isn't for everyone

That’s a great idea except there are deliveries in places like this. Do you think the product is unloaded on the side of the highway so trucks don’t have to enter tight parts of a city ? Your opinion is obviously from someone who doesn’t know

Poor planning by logistics company. If it's the only turn to get to the destination they should be pulling a way shorter trailer. Or just a new driver that dosent know the proper route
