top job mate .It like you never leave home with the a/c unit goes on the boat and on the truck tent and probly comes from the window from home and if the truck a/c stops working next we see it in the back window of the truck lol you must have put some hrs in the unit you got your money out of it hey. i just use a 12v fan does the job in the tent here if you put tent i right place away from the sun 1st up so when it gets to hot we up and out of bed...

I was thinking about just setting the AC unit on the tailgate and closing the door around it. I have a truck tent that has a floor in it. Your setup would be good if I was going to stick around for a few days. I solve the moving around while camp is set up by hauling my 300 lb motorcycle in the bed of the truck. I use it to explore and run to the store if needed.

This is an older video but I do have a question if you still monitor the comments. Did you purchase a longer tent than one designed specifically for the length of your truck bed to allow for the raised platform? I like the idea but I think if I raise the deck, the tent will not be long enough to tie down across the tailgate unless I get one that is longer than what is recommended for my truck. I have a standard full size 6’-6” truck bed.

I have a question about the floor that you put down in the truck bed. Do you find that having that floor down messes with anything in the tent? I'm just wondering if the extra space below you causes any issues with the tent setup or the tent floor fit? I like the idea of having the floor above the wheel wells and being able to store fishing poles and things underneath the floor.
@thesailingrode18176 жыл бұрын
Benjamen Kozich The platform does not effect the tent, just raises it up under our mattress. I like this tent version because it has a floor compared to some other brands that just go over the truck bed with not floor. We store things under the platform, you just have to release the straps on the tailgate to reach them as the tent floor blocks the space from inside the tent.

Can your maybe post the components you used to create the AC stand and so on would be awesome. I am looking at getting the same tent from Napier as well and love the AC idea for our Texas heat at night. Would love to have your instructions for making such a AC stand with PVC.
@thesailingrode18177 жыл бұрын
I really don't have any instructions. it is pretty simple. I just bought two 90 degree metal connectors from Lowes that screw to the pvc connectors (use pipe foam and tape to protect the truck) and hang on the top of the truck bed, then make a stand that fits your truck and a nylon cover Velcro to the tent. the support legs have a range of holes to adjust the height for different ground levels.

Hate to nitpick, but wondering if you've ever had this thing working when a big wind came up. I'm wondering if the stand might collapse if the wind caught up under the AC and lifted it. Some thunderstorms have a lot of wind, at least at the beginning as the front moves through. Just wondering if you've experienced that situation with this setup.
@thesailingrode18177 жыл бұрын
gmaneis We have never had it in high winds. If we expected weather, I would just secure it to the tire or wheel well with ratchet straps.

If anyone decides to buy a truck tent like ours. Please consider using our Amazon affiliate link, it costs the same low Amazon price, but Amazon sends us a small commission for promoting the product. thesailingrode.com/amazon We like our Napier tent as it has a full bottom to prevent any water, dirt, bug intrusions. Other tents just use the bottom of the truck bed. Here is a link to all the Truck Tents on Amazon. amzn.to/2b0Wqo2

Mate, you should experience Australia in mid summer, seriously hot. We cope with plenty of cold beer and ice. If I turned up with a A/C at a camp ground in a tent, I would be asked to leave. All in jest, respect your choice, it just would never happen in Oz thats why it is amusing
