I see a lot of Ford vs. Chevy arguments, but here's the thing. 99% off these trucks are so built up that the owner might as well rebrand it with their own name. The only fails I see that have anything to do with the original manufacturer are the GM tie rods and a 30+ year old Ford frame bending. The broken axles and smoked transmissions are all a result of pushing 3x the intended power through stock components. It's a sport, so let's enjoy it for what it is, not get caught up in brand arguments.

If you were to rate, staying in bounds, furthest distance, and good wheelies, what would you score each, all 1 point, 1 points for furthest distance, 1 point for best wheelies/best show, 1 point for staying in bounds? Keep in mind these bad boys hook two times a night.

@WWPTV I get that these trucks are going more for show, but if they are hooking to the sled two times a night, one they aught to watch the track like the other pullers do to see where the ruts are , two they should be figuring out how to get further down the track in-bounds to make their show better. Maybe install some form of individual brake operation so they can slow one wheel down letting the other catch up to “steer” the truck during a wheelie!

The winning hook that got kicked and pulled up in the air by the sled was a front end giving out and weight box not having rollers. Some were simple parts falling off or expected runs that just came up short. I mark all original projects with a red label when we do a slow motion replay for reference later. Good call T C.

Just like usual, great footage 👍🏻 I have one more question though. If a Diesel engine is rolling coal so much does it actually translate into increased power output? Or these engines are tuned like that more for fun? I gotta admit, rolling coal fascinates me but I read that increasing fuel injection to that extent results only in increased soot, not the real torque. So, power-wise, does it make sense to smoke so heavily? Or is it laggy turbo? Don't get me wrong, I love watching this; I'd show your vids over and over again to these tree huggers.
@WWPTV4 жыл бұрын
Diesel engines are known for torque. And turbo chargers are a way to give them good low end torque as well. Several of these classes run water injection and intercoolers as well. Cooler engines means more power. So that is how you optimize the power to the wheels and save the engines. A lot of pullers will never pull without water injection/intercoolers. They will even trade weight to make it fair to other pullers. The Dyno is the only way to truly know what the power to the wheels is. In pulling a lot of pullers refer to the sled as the ultimate Dyno. You know exactly how dialed you are based on how far you pull and where you finish.

The bigger NTPA events will always have some W,W,&F. Think about it 4800 hooks per year and this few W,W,&F, not bad! I get so many comments like, "Hey lots of I lost my drive shaft." @WWPTV5 жыл бұрын
College overrated with guaranteed debt and employment opportunities are not guaranteed. THIS IS PURE FUN and it doesn't cost as much as you might think. When a Cal Berkley professor say to their class, "Who wants to be the next Gates, Jobs, Ellison?" and then tells those 4 students who raised their hands to, "Get the hell out of my classroom!" you know it is not a requirement for success. To compete, build engines, balance vehicles, and do it week in and week out, you have to be smart, well funded, and passionate about it. In all fairness, my college cost $12,000.00 and I worked with scholars from the biggest names including Harvard, MIT, Stanford, you name it. I also worked my butt off at most holding down 4 part-time jobs to get out debt free. You can accomplish everything without anything from anybody. Do I recommend college? Yes for someone who needs a degree to perform the desired job or is unsure what they want to do or how to do it. I also recommend pulling of course.

@@WWPTV : how do you figure this doesn't cost that much? do you know what some of those engines are worth? Even if you have the knowledge and ability to build your own good parts cost money.
@WWPTV5 жыл бұрын
@@dominicoconner1973 Cost is relative to your earning potential. Of all things in life it is the one thing you can get more of. Time, not so much. All good things in life cost time, money, blood, sweat, and tears. But the enjoyment, some things you cannot put a cost on. And whatever it took out of your wallet was nothing compared to doing something and being a part of something like this or any other motorsport. I am an encyclopedia of costs of parts, pullers, chassis, haulers, dualies, trailers, engines, transfer boxes, electrical boxes, sleds, tracks, events, and venues. I work with all fronts of this sport. I tell people all the time, this sport like any other hobby, "the cost hasn't changed in 100 years, it takes everything you got."

The rigs early on at 3:50 or the rigs toward the middle at 6:46? Keep one thing in mind even though they are modified multiple engines, all sled operators like to keep the action 330 or less. The Front 4 Engines are Mounted Crank to Crank. To Start it, they use a Remote Starter on one side, then walk around to the Other side and put a Wrench in to Engage the Clutch between the second 2 Engines, and when the Driver sees Oil Pressure on his Console, he hits the Mag Switch and that Fires the Second Pair. When he gets backed up to the Sled, they Fire the 5th Engine the same way they did with the 2nd Pair. The Bottom Engines have a Crossbox behind them and the 5th Engine Ties in to the Same Box. This runs all 5 Engines into 1 Main Driveline that Runs to the Rear End. From there, Hook it up, Take Up the Slack in the Chain, and HANG ON!!!

Political issue. Definitely not a scientific one. For this reading along and don't know: The leader of it is UN guy, Maurice Strong I think, who wants to reverse the Industrial Revolution something that happened 150 years ago all for 1 degree. I know plenty of people who wake and have to be in other peoples business. I do not see that changing. The western side of our mountains are all dying from chemical manufacturing in China. What kind of deal is going to be proposed that forces the biggest culprit in the world to comply with? Can I imagine competition with electrics? Yes, I can, but it will not be as loud, have as much vibration, and have as much smoke. I know guys that would buy a used Tesla truck to haul around their toys if it were $25,000 used. It will take a decade alone for that to happen. And for longer treks, are they willing to give up carrying capacity for extra batteries? Now, I do like the idea of having the top of your road tractor lined with solar panels charging while you drive. That is cool. Good comment.

@@WWPTV what I don't get is they have extractors for the diesels, but not for the gas motors? Just cause you can't see the pollution doesn't mean it isn't there
@WWPTV6 жыл бұрын
So, a couple of points you have to remember. These vehicles are running more efficiently than anything on the road except for a Tesla. Most efficiencies come from performance on the track. These types of events don't require million dollar teams, sponsors, and partnerships to stand up. And unlike Indy or Nascar, there are numerous events all over the country. Secondly, gas and alcohol powered machines have caused air quality alarms to sound in indoor events. It is a fact. But as I have been at dozens and dozens of these indoor events, the only problem I have encountered is standing for 15 hours straight. Not breathing, or need of a painters type filtration mask. And my third point is the smell, the particles are half of the appeal. The lifted Chevy runs a grape scented fuel that smells amazing. I love it. If I had smell-a-vision, I would time videos with different smell discs so you could enjoy the same feel, smell, excitement this old dog gets every time I go out to film. I love diesel, alcohol, and racing fuel smells.

I want roll cages, fire suits, the whole nine, but then this wouldn't be an Altered Farm class. It is an entry level class with a standard turbo/pump across all pullers.

What are those little tanks up front? Water for weight?
@WWPTV5 жыл бұрын
Usually one for Water. The other for fuel. There are bigger takes for ice water up to 80 pounds of it on some tractor classes for Inter-coolers and water injection. Some vehicles are hidden behind the sheet metal and some are exposed. I have seen beer kegs used for this purpose. The Go for a ride in a Semi video I did you will see that.

Not being able to see the smoke blow outta the stack just kills it for me..
@WWPTV4 жыл бұрын
Me too. But with it inside, it takes forever to clear. It comes undone about 6 times over the course of the weekend. It takes 15 minutes to repair and for the smoke to clear. The Florida pulls are all open ended arenas and the smoke does work out pretty quickly. Outdoors is best though. Makes a better picture.
@doomslayer1634 жыл бұрын
@@WWPTV Yeah, I could imagine the arena filling up with smoke quick, lol..and yeah, the outdoor pulls make some damn fine pictures..

I was there when the hummer power duramax broke. That was his second pull of the night. I think he broke something on the first pull.
@WWPTV6 жыл бұрын
Maybe, but broke it real good the second-go-round. His first run was like 187 or something. Yeah, a H2 Duramax, who would have thunk it?

Tie rod ends broke. Notice how the front tires torque in.
@AzzKicker-bz1cb6 жыл бұрын
@SAVAGE GCR Yeah, he must have sprained the tie rod ends on the first run because the right side wheel was pointing left as he started his second pull!!! I didn’t know that was the second pull for him until I read this comment thread. But I could tell as soon as he started to add power that one or both sides was going to brake!!!

Why do most of these trucks have there exhaust pipes leading into that big black tube in the first few clips
@WWPTV6 жыл бұрын
This is for diesel 4x4 trucks and diesel tractors. The particles would cloud up the place making action unwatchable. It is a smoke tube about 400 foot of it that is connected to a massive fax outside of the arena that just sucks it right out! This video shows it sucking it right off the tractor instead of through the exhaust pipe: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6jHaa1sgJ6Me6cm27s

How much weight they are pulling?
@WWPTV6 жыл бұрын
Empty Sleds weigh 32,000LBs. Each block that goes in the weight box weighs 2,000LBs. It can hold 10 in the box and two on the sides of the sled. Some can hold an extra one up front as well. By 200 feet or so all the weight for the given class it all the way up at the front of the sled. Weight varies by pulling class. Most operators want pullers to stop between 290 and 310. Some pulling vehicles are built to run and want to be 320 plus feet.

in case you're wondering - this is where those million of dollars in farming subsidies go
@WWPTV6 жыл бұрын
Cover crops are pretty much the only government subsidy for grain farmers. Cover crops don't do anything but increase air quality or so they say. There is a program where you can get cover crops and actually harvest them as the government sees a shortage. The first crop covers seed, feed, etc. The second harvest should cover mortgages and equipment expenses. The third crop should be your pay. And it is not millions unless you have a corner on a market I do not know about. Where this comes from is a product of long days working thousands of acres to make it meet and hopefully exceed last years yield. You may do that and still be short because the prices are junk. I am a former government employee like many pullers that are the same, I put into my business and they put into their pulling vehicles everything we got to put on a good show. I hope that no puller lives in the poor house, but I do fear that may be the case for some. I love the quote that says, "In 100 years of pulling, the cost is the same. It will take everything you got!" Many guys come from the drag racing scene and they have told me there is nothing like this on the planet.
