Everything said in this video is by me as an individual and is not necessairly supported by the company I work for.
I have wanted to make a video with this truck for a long time now! :D
And I think you can tell how much I stuggle to translate some of these terms from Swedish to English, but hopefully I think you guys understand what I mean :)

First of all, - let me say that I love your videos Cassie. Second.. I'm amazed by at how much insight car drivers can gain from these videos. I work as a driving instructor in Denmark, and as a driving instructor here, I'm forced to have a Motorcycle license, truck and trailer license. So when I have students getting ready for their car license, I can teach them from my own experience, and explain to them, how a car and a semi-truck would take corners differently, - plus we talk about blind angles, and the time it takes a truck to come to a complete stop etc. It is really helpful to have that experience. ! If you've spent all your driving hours in a car only, - I would recommend you to team up with a truck driver if possible, - and experience for yourself what it is like for truck drivers on the road out there, - how car drivers ignore or dis-respect the size and weight of these trucks

That was an excellent comment you made Cassie at the end of the vid. To get a licence for a car in Australia you get no training about the behaviour of larger vehicles. Besides cutting the corner when they turn they also take longer to slow down or stop. This doesn't seem to worry any car driver who cuts in front of a loaded truck. Another thing is blind spots. I know truck mirrors are set up to maximise vision but they are not perfect. Personally I stay well behind or well out in front of any truck, and I minimise the time I spend beside a truck in the adjacent lane.

I always hang back in a round-about when there's any vehicle with a trailer or a big truck ... it's just courteous, as well as safe. And I often get a wave of a hand or a thumbs up from the driver when she/he knows that I've stopped to let them have the entire space. But yes, I never thought about what you said about people not being taught about larger vehicles. People should be taught.

Aww, the dogs are so adorable! Very interesting way of doing things to load that trailer, it is always self done? I always thought you would just park the trailer and someone there would do all the loading operations. Also you're right at the end, I have also wondered the same thing about how you can learn to drive but know nothing about the driving of other vehicles that are larger, if people understood better they would probably act differently around them, well most people anyway.

A very interesting video with you and Robin, Cassie, i have never driven a tanker, although my company has them, its the first time i have seen a Powder tanker being loaded, you and Robin make a great team, i think your tankers are bigger than here in the UK. The car drivers do the same thing here at Roundabouts they think they can squeeze in not realising our back wheels don't follow the front ones, so nearly get squashed, The place there looks empty, where are the people? or was it too early, anyway thanks, and look forward to the next one. cheers

Remember driving trailers in norway in the early 90s and when you prepared to make the wide turn to the right someone would try to sneak in on your right , would be nice of they added a segment for regular drivers license where they had to get the basic understanding of how much space a big trailer etc needs to move safely

Cassie, I was impressed with that load gauge system and is that reading off of the air suspension and then converting the pressures into kg's ( or is it load cells, I see even the steer axle has a readout so really curious what sort of setup this is ) . Long ago I did run a tandem axle body job for a bit hauling powdered cement out to oil rig sites and blow it into the small silo they had temporarily set up with the trucks onboard PTO driven blower system. You might have to have a few pairs of those disposable plastic coveralls handy to slip on so you don't become a cement powder puff yourself, and some dust masks if you can get any these days ..... , and an air hose with blow gun you can plug into an air supply tank on the truck to blow yourself off with. On the topic of traffic and drivers of small vehicles not requiring to learn anything about what highway tractors have to do to maneuver as in using the whole road or distances needed to stop, you bring up a really good point as that lack of knowledge has undoubtedly injured or killed a lot of people over the years by being in potential kill zones if you will of large trucks and they "assume" the truck is supposed to be able to stay within its lane or stop as quickly as they can, deadly assumptions indeed !. I expect you see that lack of knowledge or almost a pig headed mind set on their part and no doubt a few times you felt like stopping and dragging the driver out of their vehicle and slap some sense into them LOL.
@sisutrucks

its off the suspension pressure, one of my trucks have steel ride front axle, and still have load indicator. that truck dont have a very accurate read out, but my other older truck you can rely on it down to half a ton or less. bit moody so its just an indicator, not a scale.
@charlesb4267
@charlesb4267 4 жыл бұрын
@@sisutrucks Thanks for answering that, I was really wondering about that steer axle and if it had air ride or what the deal was. Still very interesting compared to what I have been around which is just basic air pressure gauges and the trailer gauge is back on the trailer in its own protected box and nothing on the steer axle.

@@charlesb4267 - On the subject of people not understanding how larger vehicles work, I myself have never been a truck driver but I have been driving buses in city traffic for 14 years (in Stockholm, Sweden and it's suburbs). When I was coming up to a stop I always looked at where people's feet was at the curb and I picked that as my stopping point. Where to start braking is a judgement call with all the factors weighed in, condition of the road (dry, wet, snow, ice, uphill, downhill), the weight of the vehicle (number of passengers onboard, people sitting down or standing up) and all that, but it's quite common that some people are a bit impatient and start walking towards the approaching bus, to kind of meet it halfway. ** How far they walk towards the bus is how much they are wrong about where it's going to stop **. Have a look for yourself the next time you see people at a bus stop. I myself never bothered if people started to walk towards me, I always stopped at my original stopping point. If people want's to do a bit of physical exercise by walking back and forth before they got onboard is not really any of my business. Cheers / B.
