This is the second exact truck I had to drive when I first started driving. The first was a 10 speed peterbilt 379 roll off truck. But this is the truck I really had to drive a lot lol. A stake bed hahah. Cool video

Victoria Peterson no, just single clutch. 5 and 6 speed Eaton transmission in Medium-Duty trucks have synchronized.

Rico Gonzalaz it depends on your engine size and torque to speed ratio. The easy answer is you will know as u hear the engine revs. Your tachometer (rpm gage) on your dashboard will should u. As a general rule for manual transmission car and older trucks u want to up shift when u rpm is about 1500 or more. But before 2000 rpm. U have to downshift under 1300. So most of the time u have to apply brakes to slow down abit before downshift. Downshift is very dangerous if u shift to a very low gear while the vehicle is moving fast. Will shoot an in detail video for u

Do u rev up the RPM a little before down shifting?

Franksta281 generally yes. If u have lots on distance to downshift then no u apply brake to lower the engine rpm then down shift. However it u r doing an aggressive down shifting then yes u need to raise the engine rpm to match the truck road speed when then shows the truck done also. I personally Drive with my engine brake on all the time so that helps to slow down the truck so I do a TAP TAP on the accelerator when downshift

taking my test next month in New York..and they passed a law 3 years ago that if you don’t take the road test in a manual transmission you will have a restriction on your CDL stating that you can’t drive a manual transmission...real bullshit

That is the law in Caribbean islands,if you choose automatic on your driving test and you get caught driving a manual you can be charged a big fine,the law enforcement looks at that first thing whenever they pull a truck or bus

You can double pump the clutch without changing gears or touching the accelerator pedal to slow the vehicle. I'd rather lose the clutch over losing the brakes.

How do you start at an uphill without rolling back or stalling?

You load the clutch. So ease off the clutch just enough to feel the truck vibrate or see the truck shake. Once the clutch is loaded your truck won’t go anywhere on a hill. Be sure to let go of the brake first before fully letting go of the clutch when you’re ready to take off.

its not ideal. one of the hardest part of truck driving especially is loaded heavy. use lower gears, keep your rev high and let off the clutch whiling still on the brakes and accelerator at the same time. all part of the fun. if in a tractor trailer use your trailer brakes to hold you while you get ready to move off. great question. 👍 thank you for your feedback. be sure to subscribe
