Another fine video Jack! Early on you were in a car with a camera. The best camera set up I've used is the Ram Pickup. The guide lines on screen actively bend in the direction you are steering. The only problem I got with cameraed cars is, remembering I have it. What.... Where... Oh Yeah.

Thanks for another great movie! Sorry to see Old Red seems to be starting to eat coolant. It could be just from the heat (105!? yuk!) but you might think about having it pressure tested. Might be time to start thinking about putting Old Red out to pasture. Keep up the great work both behind the wheel and the camera.

Hi Jack: Weeeeell, let's hope there is no Leak. Sometimes a hard long pull will dump a cupful or two cupfuls. As Water gets hotter, it expands to create a little dump. If there are no bubbles in the Water, you haven't a compression Leak. To see the Bubbles means filling the System right up to the top of the filler Neck which forces any Bubbles into view. Once you are finished, drain out the extra you put in or it will drain itself through the Overflow pipe and you will see it on the Ground. Another indicator is Pressure in the Rad. The Rad systems these days run under a few Pounds of Pressure. If there is no or low Pressure, there is a leak somewhere. And, of course, if you are having to add Fluid regularly, there is a Leak.

might be a good thing to get your compressor checked out if the head gasket has blown on that, can cause coolant to drop, also unwanted air leaks, also might be a good idea to get a pressure test done to see if there might be any obvious leaks

I use the blue coolant in my 2002 Dodge Cummins. During the summer I decided that I needed to fill the reservoir to the max line. Drove to Bojangles in Aiken SC (6 miles). There was coolant under the truck when I came out. I guess it wasn't supposed to be filled because it went back down to the original level.

I want to get one of the mercedes 1 or 2000 series cabovers from the mid 90's cheap and do a refurb on it. They are real capable trucks with the V8s they came with and had way better amenities than most of the other trucks available of the time and are still good. I could extend the chassis and put a bigger fibreglass sleeper on it and put a spoiler on the roof. Being an ex shipwright who knows how to make moulds and laminate fibreglass helps aswell as being a self taught mechanic ;)

What you call the round table discussions are still frequently the norm her in France, Jack. We eat in some fine places, not the giant multiples that you frequent, and often it is one long table down the room and the tradition is that you wait for the waitress to seat you, thereby filling up the table from one end in an orderly manner. There are exceptions of course, TV is the killer these days, but I very often get into interesting talk about our lives on the road. I would be sad to see that go.

Greetings from Va. Mr. Jack I gat my CDL on 2014 I drove for a not so big trucking company, for personal issues, I had to stop driving over the road after only about four months and drove for a manufacturing company about another five months and same thing happened. now I have decided that it would be good if I buy a truck and might be able to drive enough to make enough money for paid for expenses and have some extra to live a not so bad lifestyle, the thing is that I don't know how to go about it and I ask people and well, seems as no one wants to help me out and I get discouraged, any advice will be very much appreciated it. thanks in advance.

If anyone wants to take off a Radiator Cap, be forewarned that after a Run, the Water is exceedingly hot....you do not want any of this hot Water sprayed on you. Hey Jack, love the vids. I'm an apprentice diesel mechanic in Australia, when I get qualified I want to do some interstate driving like yourself so your videos are great to watch. Not sure if you know or not, but if you're waiting for your air tanks to fill, they will fill faster if you rev your engine. And one last thing, Just wondering what gearbox you have behind that cummins? Thanks!
@zoelusiera10109 жыл бұрын
+Richard Hurtz ; Hi Richard - only mechanic's rev engines up ...... a good trucker wait for it ; specially if the engine is cold too ! Hahahaaaaa........... Now only joking - I am from South Africa I share your dream of also trucking in USA . At least we play better rugby then they , don't we ? (smile)
@barrydavis15709 жыл бұрын
+Richard Hurtz Hi Richard....a little extra RPM won't hurt. I prefer to let the Engine be at Idle and just let Pressures and Temps. do their thing. I Cringe when I see someone start a cold Engine and poke it up to 2000 RPM right off the Mark. Why.....who taught them this Procedure. Everything is dry and has shrunk in size a few thousandths....don't do it. And the Turbo, sometimes two of them are sitting there waiting for their Bushings to be scored by some Knuckle Head unnecessarily revving the Engine. These Engines have at least a million Miles built into them.....a little respect will give you that Million plus Miles! Just do the Start and let everything happen at or very near Low Idle! Once Temps and Pressures start to show, then go. On a new Engine or rebuilt Engine, many just want to feel some Heat in the Block and then go. This is a consideration for proper Break-in of the Rings.
@PWD659 жыл бұрын
Barry Davis I definitely agree with you. When I start up a truck and need to build up air pressure, I generally wait til I have full oil pressure, and I only rev it up 400-500 rpm above idle. Not revving too hard but still makes air build up a bit faster, Especially if you have a blocked air dryer.
@barrydavis15709 жыл бұрын
+Richard Hurtz Hi Rich: Perhaps it is time to change the Air Dryer Filter. A habit I've often seen is when People feel the RPM should be Gunned just before shutting down the Throttle. Just about Guaranteed is shorter Turbo Life. The Turbo does have a tiny Oil Reservoir between the two Bushings, however, if someone does this, eventually you will hear the Turbine end touching the Housing. Revving is just not necessary and why speed up a Repair Bill for a Turbo of approx. $1,500.00 plus the loss of Revenue and perhaps a Tow. If the Impeller end of the Turbo lets go, you run the Risk of a chunk going into a Cylinder or two.......notta good!!
