Driver backing into the 1 pole on 2 acres: I have 68 acres in Texas. Mostly wooded but where barns are there is plenty of room. So was backing my triple axle GN equipment trailer and backed slap over my picnic table..... Had a class A license for only 40 years........Get in a hurry and poop happens.

In defense of "some" drivers... Had a framing crew receive a lumber pack and he wanted the pack as close to the foundation as possible. The driver kept telling him he was close enough and that the load would slide back and be right next to the foundation. The framer TOLD him he wanted him to get closer. The driver looked over at us, we were siding a neighboring house, and shrugged his shoulders while getting back in the truck. He backed it up until the framer said OK. He then hit the lift and dumped the load right into the basement and was driving away as the bed was coming down. I remember laughing so hard! Laughed again when the lumber company asked us what had happened and we told them the framer was an asshat!

Chris, my favorites were the excavator operators that coudn't keep the loads in the box . Its always fun to have to clean the sideboards and endgates of slop when there's no dry pull-off area . Then there's the operators that can't hit the middle of the box leaving you heavy on one side ( generally the verge side ) . I will say I've not ever seen you do any of this and your loads look like they ride ( and dump ) good ! If you find a reliable way to keep drivers from ' clumping up ' and staying reasonably consistent in turn-around times -- patent it !

Can't tell how many times I've had side board's knocked clean off because joy stick holder's couldn't pull back on the right stick, must be a rare case of suddenly hard stick flare up's in the cab of that excavator or how many times I've had rock dropped down the side of my truck because apparently rolling the bucket when your over the box is extremely difficult as well?? Wish you tube would allow you to post pics in a comment because I've got not a few but more than I can count pictures of excavators with the tracks spun off on one side , rock on the roof of my cab, and I'm not talking about crumbles either more like wheelbarrow full. cable and power lines drug down on job sites, and dug up cable and sewer that was supposedly one called, maybe just maybe their should be an excavator test before letting some of these geniuses on the stick's

I have a wee truck story for you Chris... I was a machine driver in the Forces serving in Northern Ireland in the mid 90’s. I was on a night job on a Police/Army Base with my fellow Driver in a Self Loading Tipper (Scammell S26 Grab Wagon) we had a 10 Ton Tilt Trailer with Hydrema 806 Backhoe on the back. All in all around 56 Foot in length and a good 36 Tons in Weight. Any way we made our way to the camp only to find there was a temporary vehicle Park main Gates obviously this was a lights out operation due to the threat of Terrorist Attack etc so we made our way in and got Parked up in the corner. Here was security outside so we both made our way inside to book in and get the low down on the job at hand. This took around 30minutes...anyway we got sorted and made our way back to the vehicle. Got inside and awaited the call to make our way into the camp. This came via the radio and so the driver decided to back up so as to turn it round. Problem is the truck started bogging in on the temporary surface (MOT Aggregate) so he dived to lock the 3Axles and put it in low ratio (off road capability) but still it felt a bit bogged in. So thinking this ain’t right I asked him to put his side lights on for a second so I could see the rear of the vehicle? Well what do you know the trailer lights were at angle as if on a steep slope! I shouted stop and went to check out what the issue was. Thinking it’s most likely a pile of Aggregate I headed to the rear of the trailer. Under the rear axle was the bonnet of an unmarked Maroon coloured Ford Sierra Cosworth response vehicle (armour plated) worth approximately £75,000 at the time with its front axle collapsed and radiator touching the floor! The vehicle belong to a very irate and aggressive Sergeant from the Royal Ulster Constabulary none the less and this vehicle was his pride and joy. Total write off. Bomb proof and bullet proof but apparently not soldier proof. My friend was a Lance Corporal when this happened but he was a Private when the report was filed. Rule no1 always check round the vehicle before you set off 😉

@brownwarrior6867

I should point out there was a heated exchange in the temporary Car Park between the irate Sgt and Oppo. See the thing is the SGT had pulled into the Car Park so as to avoid the trouble of booking in etc. He in his ultimate wisdom had decided the very best place to Park a Maroon Coloured vehicle with blacked out tinted windows was in behind a 50 foot vehicle in the dark behind a trailer with a machine on board? When my Oppo tried to point out just how incredibly stupid this was well he very nearly pulled his side arm in a rage 😁 I don’t know for sure whether it was the fact his pride and joy was now a £75k pancake or whether it was the fact both myself and his oppo were pissing our pants with laughter. Thing is the Police Force only had 2 of these vehicles in the country and thanks to us they were down to 1. Ps Chris pay these drivers by the load no slips no pay. Save you and them a whole load of hassle bud.

Duncan Mcfadden yeah I think I would’ve been pretty mad if a flatbed crushed my very expensive military vehicle. Then again I don’t think I would’ve been stupid enough to Parkette in such a bad spot.

Off topic Chris , I was watching a video on underwater bulldozers at work clearing the silt of the bottom of a small harbour.they look like a child 🧒 would put together with LEGO and had this huge mast hanging off the central deck that acted both for the exhaust and intack and they were green Komatsu . Loved your stories , keep them coming.

One time I was playing with one of the wheel loaders and the toy fleet, and I was moving snow, and I lost control of the bucket, and missed the truck completely. There is also another time when I was transporting one of my excavators, and it slid right off the flatbed. I had to get rubber liners so that would not happen again.

When I first got out of school I worked for a rock quarry driving a haul truck. Well I wasn’t there long because I was driving to the trash pile with a load of clay and just slightly got ooff the tire tracks. Well the left side sunk about 3 feet and set it on the side. Took a d9r and a 345 cat to get it out.

At my factory I have had drivers that were questionable at best. On 1 side of the building there is a 2 acre graveled lot for ground level door requirements. 2 acres of hard pack graveled lot and drivers will swing into the soft grassy area and get stuck.Then there was the one who delivered a small dozer I bought and couldn't unload it as he had no ramps: told the broker there was no ramp at the facility... So backed another trailer to the rear of his and he still wouldn't allow the dozer to move as he didn't want the tracks to ding his trailer deck. Told driver he had 2 options: allow me to off load dozer or forfeit haul fee and he had 30 seconds to decide. Unloaded my dozer..... Damaged in-bound freight is another horror story to long to discuss. And it's getting worse.

I was driving to work one morning on an elevated highway. In the distance I couldn’t tell if I was seeing fog or smoke. It turned out to be a big dump truck had his tail gate bust open dumping a load of gold ball sized rock on the road. The pickup truck that was right behind him looked like it was shot with the worlds biggest shotgun. If I had been 30 seconds ahead of time, it would have been me.

I loaded plastic pipe in South East Iowa going to the airport expansion in Sioux falls South Dakota. I had made the round before so the guy was all questions. So we drove the route in pairs. I told him the routine about how to check in at the site. 10 miles to go he shut off his radio , passed me and got to the site before me. The jobsite was a muddy mess. A D9 showed up with a bubble gum smacking kid at the controls. Hooked a big chain to the front of the truck and just started yanking the truck to the trench . Ripped the brake cylinders right off. Get him empty drag him back to the yard entrance gate. Motioned to me and I said unload me right here. The kid looked at me and said you mean i could have said that too?

It's terrible getting decent drivers for seasonal farm work, boy do they make for crazy stories...taking out power lines with a fully raised box....cutting corners short and tipping trucks....burning brakes and clutches.... The ones who claim to be professional truck drivers are the worst, but take a farm kid who never been in a big truck, teach him a little about shifting and he will be your best driver in a week.

You want to wait a few days before making a decision on those drivers, then you could tell who smartens up because they watched the channel. I know what you are saying about the guy hitting the pole, I fix equipment for guys that could hit 1 or both gateposts in a field if they were 3/4 mile apart. The truck drivers that annoy me are the Hutterites I work for, The lord gave them mirrors and they don't use them backing up to the hog shoot, because the tractors at 45 degrees to the trailer so they can't see or back up right. if you can see water standing on the grass, they driver in it then wonder why they are stuck. a couple of them have been told If i was starting a well drilling business I'd employ them to find the spot to drill. A couple of the real bad ones have been told the only reason they have class one licenses is because the test center didn't want them back again for a retest. Man I don't have a class 1 but grew up backing big trailers in yards it's easy if you know what you are doing, those guys just p!$$ me right off the way they drive on other peoples property !
