Think of your business as a bucket with a tap of water running into it. Overheads are holes in the bucket. At the moment you have a bucket with some water in it, the taps not running and you keep drilling holes in the bucket

Gotta post an ad in the local papers (legal notices section) for at least 21 days to give people chance to object to your proposed operating centre. Even if it already exists ie using someone else’s yard. Getting an experienced transport manager on board to help you with the application will probably save at least one rejection on a technicality. Hope the KZbin revenue keeps coming in during that time 😂

Good luck for the future going on your own we all start somewhere. That truck even once everything is rectified will continue to cost alot to keep it working in maintenance. Hopefully once your up and running and being so popular your buisness will grow and you can buy a brand new truck because from my experience in being an hgv mechanic and now running my own trucks new trucks are the way fwd on a maintenance program with the dealer. You know exactly how much your paying out every month with no huge financial surprises popping up when a gearbox or engine fails. It seems alot of money to buy new but if the trucks working everyday and reliable it more than pays for its self. We all started where you are it's an exciting time going on your own and there is alot to learn but you get there in the end if your dedicated and put in a huge amount of hours,stress and commitment it will all work out. I've been a class one driver for 30 years and never mucked about, and always looked after my kit. You and your videos are a breath of fresh air. I love watching you helping with your Scanias. Remember small operators can fall foul on the ocrs scoring with vosa. It takes nothing to end up with a red light score, so your truck needs to be bang on as you'll likely get pulled a bit being new. V8s do have rattly compressors on idle. Keep coolant mix correct, or liner seals can fail, or worse is cavitation causing block erosion at the top of the waterways. Thats nearly 30k for a replacement block. If its dpf then thats about 10k for a new one. Spend as little as till your earning steady money. Scania parts aren't cheap.

I agree regarding spending 'til the money starts coming in, even then you should only spend on things you really need to keep the truck on the road and compliant. Then (over time) you can start treating yourself. This is how I fell foul of the OCRS scoring ! kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKumpWieq7-LiNU

I think if you declare your home as the Business Headquarters or Operating Centre you could also possibly claim on expenses related to said Operating Centre. Also, do we not get an update on the cost of these builds? I kinda feel that is a crucial part of the series.

Your home can be your Business HQ (Trading Address) but home can't be your Operating Centre as it has to be somewhere you keep the truck, you can't keep it on your drive if you live in a residential area due to safety concerns and various environmental reasons. My home address is my Trading Address and my Operating Centre is a factory on an Industrial Estate.

@@deepfiix There are things in place if you have a 'home office' but it's more of a business allowance. Basically, the cost of running the 'office' is taken into account before (corporation) tax is paid on the Company profits . Remember, Tim will be running his business from there which is different from an employee claiming a work related expense for working at home. Without trying to overcomplicate it, there is a difference between a business having allowances/expenses and an employee having a work related expense. Remember, expenses are really just the costs of running a business before tax is calculated, tax is then paid on whatever profit is left at the end of the financial year. So, in Tim's situation, his Ltd Company (not Tim as an employee) would get an allowance from HMRC for the home based office. Sorry if I've confused you, if you ever watch my videos you'll already know that I do tend to go off on one sometimes !! Cheers.

Tim, word of advice! NEVER put your hand (or any other body part) in front of compressed air, if you have a cut in your hand (or any other body part) air could get into your blood stream and you can kiss your ass goodbye in about 30 seconds, as you will have major heart failure when the bubbles reach your heart. Just some friendly advice from a First Aider.

Best of luck Tim. The company I work for run a lot of scania's , be careful with the coolant ratio as normally scania recommend a minimum mix of -26. so you have the correct amount of corrosion inhibitor. We learnt this the hard way when an engine a failed at 100,000 km as the anti freeze level was to low and corroded the piston liners and had to a full engine rebuild. They refused to pay under warranty even though the problem was caused by there coolant pipes constantly splitting. Just a friendly heads up, seems your a owner operator now. a 50/50 mix of antifreeze is normally about -34. best of luck 😊

The valve is actually on the trailer, normally a shut off button (like you have in your cabs) on the chassis or headboard.
