Truck Drivers were some of our HEROS during Covid unnecessary Lockdowns.

Well I'll tell you exactly why you can't keep drivers. And I quote from personal expereance of 6 years. Pay average is minimum wage, Grueling 80+hr work weeks, Away from home for months... that's right MONTHS at a time... with only a day or 2 off when you do get home. Then the question as to were to park the truck and trailer. Many companies don't allow you to bring the truck home. If you can your neighborhoods may not take to kindly to trucks in the area. Lack of safe parking, you have 500k truck parking spots nationwide with over 2 million trucks. It's the equivalent of driving 15 hrs to a major sporting event and having only 3 parking spots total for the entire crowd for the superbowl or world searies. No hotels or motels available for any sports fan. Anyone that parks after the 3rd car will get a parking ticket and be towed or whells booted. This is how we as truckers are treated. Due to the lack of available parking. 16-18 hr work days. The max is 14. Your also working 6-7days a week. And you only get a 10 hr break between being onduty so better hope you didn't have to work the first 5 hrs of off duty cause now you only got 5 hrs left to sleep. Companies don't care if slept. If you have hrs to run you need to be running reguardles as to how much sleep you got that day. They can wake you up at anytime well your sleeping for any reason. If you don't hear the phone or you just don't answer it you could loose your load. Then be forced to sit for days with no load. Meaning no pay. And it don't matter if it's a holiday or not they go home every night so they could care less about the driver. If you request a 34hr reset most companies will give you crapy runs for weeks to come as a punishment for the time off. Companies and brokers expect you to be ready for anything. You're always on call, even when on break. That means working off the clock, and you are only payed when moving. Shippers and recievers don't care about your time. You could sit at one for hrs to days not moving. You are not payed to sit so most times you get no comp for days lost from waiting. So yeah, there is a shortage, and it will get worse. I don't see any 18 year old that will last more than a week, let alone retain veteran drivers with the above mentions including the courant HOS restrictions and FMCSA laws nowadays. Then you toss in the government, and you got a perfect scenario where trucking will become desperate in years to come.

Yeah get ready to sit at a dock for 8-10 hours UNPAID because traffic made you 5 minutes late.
