I’m a crane operator at ETS, I’ve been a longshoreman since 1998. Lunch on the dayside is 12-1pm. These terminal operators are not liable for our safety during the lunch hour. That being said, all Longshore, clerks and foreman usually leave the work area and will not return until 1pm. From 11:45-12 is our clean up time to get to our break room/gate/turnstile. At 1pm roll call will take place followed by a brief safety speech. Some terminals are larger than others so we may not be at our designated work areas until 1:15 sometimes. Seems unfair to shut down for nearly an hour and a half but if an injury or death occurs when I’m not on the clock, my family loses all that workman’s comp money or that death benefit from our union. Just know it’s from a legal standpoint why lunch is so long, not out of malice or laziness. ML&R, ILWU LOCAL 13

What up fam how it going? I appreciate the feedback boss. Your are one of the first people that work at the poets that responded to a video. I learned a-lot from your response. No one ever explained to the drivers the lunch breaks or shift change. Thanks you for explaining. It’s been so many issues with drivers working at the ports for the last few years. We are left in the dark about a lot. I’m still learning about the ports everyday. It’s good that’s we can communicate. We have to all work to together.

Ryda these guys are unionized the union dictates lunch brakes up to the last minute it's the port directors who are supposed to be aware of everything that is slowing down production in their ports being it's California Democrats good luck with that
