There is no real set standard for the speed limits in the U.S. It is generally left to the individual states and cities to set them in their jurisdictions. For example, its fairly normal for the speed limit on a residential street to be 25, but where I live there are a couple of streets where it is 30. On the main road through town, in the downtown area, the speed limit drops to 20 . Rest of the main road, the limit is 30. But in the neighboring town 10 miles away, the speed limit there is 35 for part of it, drops to 30 and then drops to 20 before going back up to 35.

That little single road is most likely either an old route made back in the 20's and 30's (we have many of those in Tennessee) but were later replaced by two-lane roads. Or it is a new route planning to be made into an industrial or business center.

Hey +Squirrel I hope you get a chance to read this post as I intend for It to be a good place to get a general education on American towns, roadways, and signage. 1. SIGNAGE AND SPEED LIMITS: Many of our sign are universal thought the country. The first thing to know is that the color of the background represents certain Information. I.e. Green signs represent destination and navigation Information (what road leads where and what its numerical designation is or what type of amenities can be found after you exit, such as motels, hotels, gas station options, and restaurants to eat at. Blue represent rest stops and other services, Yellow are warning signs, Red are regulatory, Orange are construction, Brown are recreation signs such as major land marks or locations of parks/beaches, Safety Yellow/Green represent school zone signs and Pink are Incident management (these are very rare to see). In the US speed limit signs are large white rectangular signs and are often displayed numbered as follows: 25 (typical inner city speed limit), 35 (for roads that are higher traffic, two lane, or with many business surrounding it, or a combination of the latter. Still typically a limit seen in inner city areas) 40 and 45 also similar to 35 but can be seen more on roads near the city limits 55 is a standard State Highway speed in many states but it can vary up to speeds as high as 70. 65, 70, and 75 are almost always state highway or interstate highway speed limits. Also keep in mind that these speeds change frequently based on the direction, curvature, and slope of the road. So a long strait highway may have a speed limit of 70 but if you spot a Yellow sign indicating a winding road ahead, you will likely see a White speed limit sign indicating a change in speed limit, usually its a reduction. I cannot speak for every state as I have not traveled through all of them, however I do not often see specific truck speed limits on the road, with exception to roads and highways traveling through or near heavily populated areas, for the most part trucks drive the same speed as other vehicles. 2. THE AMERICAN ROADWAY SYSTEM/STRUCTURE American roads are managed and maintained in specific ways. Inner city road and their condition are usually the jurisdiction of the city they run through. From there you will find County roads/highways which are managed and maintained by the County ( A county is a sub-division of land within a state. i.e. Sheboygan county is within the state of Wisconsin and the city responsible for the county in this case is the city of Sheboygan. So Sheboygan is responsible for its city roads and in co-operation with other cities in the county, such as the city of Plymouth and the City of Kohler. Yes the city of the Kohler is named after the Toilet and sink and bathroom fixtures company "The Bold Look of Kohler" etc) Continuing on with roads, there is the state highway system, which is managed by the state and the taxes it collects. So the State of Wisconsin, Nevada, or California will be in-charge of their respective roads. Finally there is the US Interstate Highway system and as the name implies its a system of roads that travel through many states. These roads will get National government funding but the management of the construction and sometimes the funding is delegated to the states for the portion of road that travels through the respective state. Labeling for each road is also different. I'll skip city road labeling however county roads are typically labeled as such: CTY Y or CTY PP, meaning county road Y or county road PP, so they have letter designations. State roads will usually be as follows: WIS 151 or CAL 12 meaning Wisconsin road 151 or California road 12. Finally you have the Interstate which is typically labeled as follows: I-43 or I-80 meaning interstate road 43 or Interstate road 80 3. CONDITION OF AMERICAN ROADS AND TRAFFIC Personally I believe that because the population density of our country compared to European countries is part of what causes our roadways to be in a poorer state of repair coupled with the fact we have way more roads than many countries. As a result there are still public roads that are gravel or dirt in the United states although its not often you will run across one. As for traffic there are sections of roads where there just is not any traffic for any number of reasons. 4. SOME BASIC ROAD RULES AND UNSPOKEN ETIQUETTE Weight stations- usually have a sign indicating if they are open or closed. I cannot say with authority if they are open that all trucks must get weighed but I do know many will and the purpose is because roads are rated to handle certain loads and If you exceed those loads you either need proper paperwork prior to driving on the road, which may include a fee, or you incur a fine for being overweight for the road. Stop signs and Stop lines- In the state of Wisconsin you are supposed to stop at the STOP-LINE by the stop sign. Once you have done this you are aloud to creep forward if a sign or hill or other obstruction is in your way. Keeping in mind that you cannot move all the way into a lane of traffic if you are not going to join that lane. Stopping on Red- If you are stopped on red lights/signals you can almost always turn right unless otherwise indicated and some states may have different rules regarding circumstances. Also we too have indicator arrows but they are typically seen for indicating left hand turning. 5. GENERAL TRUCK OBSERVATIONS 18 Speed Transmissions- Again I cannot say this with Authority but I have herd that 18 speed transmissions are very popular on American Trucks so Its an option you will run into a lot. This might be due to the fact that many many many trucks have Inline 6 engines that range from 11-13 liters. Older model trucks do have V8 V12 and I have even herd rumors of a V16 truck. Cabin styles- American trucking is largely considered a lifestyle, so whether the truck is yours or belongs to the corporation you work for It is common to see many sleeper cab and larger trucks as drivers spend days and days on the road and will sleep/live out of their trucks. Yes some trucks are so tricked out that they have living areas, Kitchens, bathrooms and more. There are also smaller cabins as well for day-trippers as everyone does not need a sleeper cab. Chrome and Aggression are king in truck styling in the US but many companies are going the way of smooth and aerodynamic to save money on fuel. Also cab-over styles exist in American form certain manufactures though I do not believe any are currently in production going back the aerodynamic and fuel efficiency thing again. Trailer Size- In a previous episode you felt you had a baby trailer and that is accurate, however from personal experience it is rare to see just one small trailer hooked up to the tractor (tractor is another word of the truck if you did not already know), but instead you will see a train for two trailers hooked together. Just as In Euro-Truck there are many other trailer types in the US including trailers for over-sized loads that have their own steering, often controlled by a chase vehicle. 6. OTHER OBSERVATIONS FOR YOU AND SCS IF YOU WERE TO PASS THIS ALONG 70 Fahrenheit is about 21 Celsius There are not that many cop cars on the road ways. It is irritating seeing how often they are around in game. Also not all of them are the Ford Crown Victoria style. Many are now a Ford Taurus and Ford Explorer style vehicle. You will even see Ford F-150 or Chevrolet 1500 pickups as police vehicles. So fix that SCS. Speeding- Again I cannot speak for every state and give the opinion of every officer and police department, but as a general rule of thumb you have + or - 5mph on the speed limit but a lot of people will drive 10 mph more then the speed limit and generally will not be pulled over by an officer. As an individual, unless you are a reckless jerk people accumulate very few speeding tickets in their life time. So again I expect that speeding should almost not be a thing in this game or else I'll need to yell at SCS. Most individuals I know have an average of about 5-10 speeding citations or warnings over the course of their life. WATCH your nose- In an episode you thought you left room for the car to pass by in an intersection, but you did not American trucks have very long ends and you must remember you are not in a cab-over vehicle. Fines double in work zones I don't think speed cameras are a thing in the United States Again I hope you get to see this, If not, those that do please like this so he can see it so we don't need to hear him asking the same questions over and over again.

@4:26 some stop signs are really like that in the U.S. I don't exactly know why but i think it's so if there is a truck making a wide turn, you're far enough back for him to do it. You stop at the stop sign completely than pull up slowly till you get to the actual end of the street, look both ways and then make your turn

+Squirrel Not hating but its funny to see an Englishman's view of the US. I know you've been here a few time, but there are still some things you need to learn about the US young padawan. Here's a small list of what I saw in this vid. Don't mean to criticize, just want to help you fit into the Cali flow haha. Interstate/freeway - California has a small dialect difference between SoCal (Southern Cali) and NorCal (Northern Cali). Being from San Diego myself, we call it a freeway. My friend from NorCal call it highway/freeway. I've hardly heard anyone call it an interstate. **FUN FACT** Theres a subtle difference in the way most people from SoCal and NorCal name freeways. Most from SoCal say "THE 5 south/north" or "THE 1 south/north". Theres a small importance on the "The". Many from NorCal say "5 south/north" etc. Freeway numbers also show the direction of travel most of the time. Odd number freeways (the 5, 15, 1, etc) run north/south, and even number freeways run east/west. 14:45 Right of way - cars making a left across an intersection at an unprotected light have the right of way against a car making a right at the corner. This is the DMV rule for cars. I'm not sure if this also applies to tucks but I think so too. Taco pronunciation - It's not tAA-co (A as in tAke) but tAHH-co (as in bAll). No matter what people say, San Diego is the Mecca for Mexican street tacos, burritos, etc!!! Speed Ticket at 22:55 - the ticket near the Peterbilt store was from a cop in the lanes from the opposite direction. There was one about 2 cars behind the tanker truck at 22:55. You can see him light you up when you look back if you pause it. This kinda pissed me off. Usually, cops don't bother to turn around to catch a speeder on the other side, unless they are stupidly speeding. I think you should only be pulled over if the cop is the same lane direction as you are driving. Hope this helps! Cheers mate! XP

Temporary events would be pretty cool. Like dynamic roadworks or accidents. Things that temporarily increase traffic in a particular area would be interesting as well, like a football game or concert. You would then need to do some route planning to avoid the area to stay out of the heavy traffic in order to make your delivery on time.

That speeding ticket you got in Bakersfield was given by a cop. If you look over in the other lane, there was a cop car driving past you. He cited you. What would be neat with the events you were talking about is if during these events, the traffic adapts accordingly. Meaning, if it's 11:00pm and a show let out, the roads should be clogged with cars due to the amount of people/cars leaving at once. Perhaps traffic jams in general would be interesting, in my opinion.

kenworth uses a Eaton fuller Non-synchronous transmission. down sifting you need to match the engine rpm with gears on your gear box Up sifting use double clutch You can shift these transmissions without using the clutch by bringing the engine to exactly the right rpm in neutral before attempting to complete a shift, a technique called "float-shifting."

Re: the car at the intersection @ 9:00 Squirrel, you blew through the stop sign @ 8:46 and then stopped past it. The Mustang convertible came to a stop likely because you've nosed out into the road. Don't forget this isn't ETS, there is a bunch of truck in front of the windshield! @ 13:48 you both have right-of-way as you each have your own lane to turn in to. And after you've stopped, you can turn night on red. And while I'm at it, it's a good thing for your sake that there aren't penalties for not using your turn signals. While you're great at signalling for turns onto new roads, I don't recall you once signalling a lane change in these seven episodes. Lastly, as others have said, there was a police car in the oncoming lane @ 22:55 that was almost certainly why you were nabbed for speeding.

You may have a problem because the kenworth uses an air-assisted hydraulic clutch. while the peterbilt uses a friction and a pull type. The chances of them modeling the clutch types though are pretty low but they did put a lot of time into the game.

Those short trains you keep seeing are just locals doing switching work I would imagine.

Its really no surprise that they shortened freight trains in this game, they shortened california (Especially width-wise... East/West) and even shortened North/South quite a bit...

I think the car lot is a drop off lot. I have one in my city, see trucks come and go all the time. I think it's where cars come IN from the manufacturers and get picked up to go to the dealership.

Random events would be cool. Like a auto show at some town when you're driving through a huge parking lot full of fancy cars or if one small town was having a parade or event where they shut down a main street (happens around phoenix and surrounding areas) and you have to figure out a new route without losing too much time : D I know I'm going to be one of the people clogging up steam Wednesday trying to download this sucker.

The speeding fine you got was from the police car travelling in the opposite direction on the separated highway. There was no camera or anything, just a cop going the other direction got you for speeding.
