Thanks for putting this together. My late father had two Albions and a comet, brings me back to when I was a kid with him on Saturdays and school holidays, on muckaway.

When I started school in 1971 I travelled on an Albion bus from the late 1950s/early 1960s. I can never recall it breaking down. The old Albions gave way to Leyland Leopards and Tigers and Bristol REs.

hi. as an ex AEC employee in the 70s i can only say that a lot vehicles were assembled at the albion plant, but in later years the only thing they made were axles.. in the 60s the motor panels LAD cab was used up to 1965 when the JS sankey ergomatic tilt cab was used by albion aec and leyland motors,Albion used leyland engines, although in the very early years produced their own. the first photo shown in the clip was basicaly a Leyand Octopus with the leyand 0.600 engine and mouth organ cab with an Albion badge on, at AEC we also used the ergomatic cab for standard vehicles.

That’s nonsense. The Caledonian was a development of the Albion HD57. It used the same chassis and axles as the HD57. The only parts common to the Octopus were the engine, gearbox and the cab was optional. Caledonian’s fitted with Homalloy cabs weighed 6tons 16 cwt allowing a payload of 17tons.

Was there a difference between Albions and Leylands with Ergomatic cabs?

LAD cab was used right up until 72 at least, if not longer.

I passed my class one on a Albion supper six, at the second attempt, I failed the first test trying to go through the six-speed box up and down on a long steep hill.
