All these pictures were taken by me in the 1980's when I was a teenager. Some were taken while riding coast to coast with my Dad and others were taken around Brockton & Avon, Massachusetts. The photos quality has been decreasing over the last 30 plus years so I figured I better post them before they get worse! Feel free to share the video.

80s And 90s were the best trucking years. Them trucks all looked so good. I went to school next to a 4 lane highway where they did a study where at times over 600 trucks would pass thru town each hour. I would daze out the window all day watching them pass And loved listening to the glass shake as they rolled thru with the Jake brake on. Now all the trucks are plastic, And Jake's in town are long gone. The good old days.

I'd probably say the 80's and the 90's are the best decades because I was raised into those decades, I remember when my uncle used to drive an ol freightliner for coca cola when he was alive, those were thr good days.

Ah the Golden Age of Trucking That was back when I started in Toronto and southern Ontario in 1987. That was the era when big custom bunks and the Western Stars with their big bunks were just coming out. The Cat 3406A and 3406B were the favourite spec of almost all brokers. Lots of 359 Peterbilts, cabovers, Ford LTLs, Kenworth W900Bs, Freightliner FLC120s. Most reefers were the old narrow Thermo King Super NWDs with the Isuzu C201 2.0 liter diesel from the ‘70s and some Carrier Eagles. The wide Thermo King SBII reefers with the new Isuzu di 2.2L diesel were just coming out in the mid ‘80s to replace the Thermo King SBI with the C201. It’s competitor was the Carrier Thunderbird.

Love seeing the old rigs...when they were new, in style and fancied up, especially the cabovers! 🥰 You could tell a KW from a GMC ASTRO from a Freightliner, etc! Cabovers were popular back then and you would see them EVERYWHERE! 😎 The 80s were good days for trucking. Looking back, I really feel that the old trucks had MORE style and character! 🤩🇺🇸 I really love the cabovers, but they all were quite fascinating! God bless all of our truckers! I come from a trucking family and still have trucking in my blood! 😎 “Make the trip, but don’t forget to enjoy the ride” is my motto! 😎

Even though these are east coast trucks, they’re still cool. It’s always funny how each part of this great nation has its own ‘style’. I bought a ‘87 Pete this year. What a project. I just barely got it to the 2019 GATS. It was the only Pete NOT shined, but it was the only one that could legally smoke. And it did. But, as with old people, it was left out of the videos made about the show. Even though there were cameras taping everything. Maybe next year.

Thanks, some cool pictures. I actually recognize some of those trucks/Drivers...I was driving for Global Van Lines and did a fair amount of Trade Show Exhibit hauling. The Mayflower w/ the "dollar bill corners" was Leroy Schimick, The dressed up Global unit at the beginning belonged to Jack Kisner. He won Global "driver of the year" so many times his jacket was held together by the patches. 3-Way Van Lines out of Sunnyvale, CA. had some great looking equipment. I loaded more than a few times out of Giltspur Exhibits too. We made more money then than is even possible to earn today. I could live off the fuel surcharges alone! I surely didn't feel "lucky" but I guess in some ways we were.

I love the short hoods!!! You could really tell the difference. Pete's K-dubs Freightshakers, all had a very distinct look with the short hord conventionals! I liked the all metal hood and fender Freightliner better than the glass hood with the blended fenders and headlights.

All through the 90's i was living in Southie & came home to Ireland in 98. Anyways, i do enjoy your channel. Tnx bud. [P.S. Did you ever hear from that crazy female that roamed the country with ye. Brian Simons No doubt they were the “Classics” to say the least! In 1985 & 86, I ran a few different 359’s to the west coast hauling private owned & dealership used cars. They had the 63” walk in with the 119” BBC. My favorite had the “new” at the time 3406B with a 13spd & 355’s. Running out Rt40 west from Okie City to Barstow was absolutely the best part of the run. Used to see a lot of chicken haulers with large cars & most of them were 359’s with a KW here & there. Then some of them had the KT 450’s & 600’s that would give my Cat a run for the money. Those were the days for sure! Good Day to You!

He passed in 81 in accident hauling old slippery pipe that wiped out truck. His first truck he owned. 79 Pete conventional single bunk. Miss him and that truck. I learned in old 79 GMC General two-stick. Through the yrs drove old R model Mack then old Int Paystar(coal haulers) then newest and last I drove was my own. 95 379 Pete with all toys bells and goodies and marriage fell apart and got out of it and turn wrenches now. BUD MEYER the company you worked for had some real nice trucks back then. Back in the 90's I pulled a hopper bottom for a while and would load at the Cargill plant in Lake City, Mn. next to the BUD MEYER terminal. They would let us drivers use their pay phone in their terminal. I think FOOD LINER might have taken over that terminal now.

Anyone remember in the mid 80’s a guy out in a truck stop off I-40, don’t remember if it was in TX, NM or AZ, him & his ol’lady had an old school bus & his CB handle was “Perverted Proffesor”? I don’t remember what he had going on at the time, but he was like a Cheech & Chong kind of guy and was alway hollering at the drivers on CH 19. We stopped in & talked to him a few times & they were cool people. They weren’t messing around with smoking dope or road aspirin I don’t think, but damn it I just can’t remember why they were always around! Good Day Everyone!
