That sounds about right. I got out about a month ago and I am not planning to ever come back, not even local. Trucking has traumatized me and this so called slave profession is in the rear view mirror. We are still in a bad economy and that may persist for another couple of years. Overinflated housing markets, widespread layoffs, diminished incomes, it all contributes to lower demand in transportation. Thank you Miranda for the little bit of positive news. Happy 4th 🇺🇸

Always be but money back (good times and not so good times) because when not if the break down comes. You will be able to with stand the pain. Not working and paying for your truck that has to be fixed. Let's hope they are all wrong and we slowly start going up from here. But I don't think there be a mad rush of people trying to start buying truck. Two reasons interest rates on used trucks and its not easy money any more. You got watch every penny as I'm sure you know very well.

Supply and demand forces eventually balance all markets, and typically this happens shorter than longer. However, this will involve a lot of pain. What I wouldn't do is take anything coming from official sources as accurate. They have been gaslighting everyone for years about the state of things starting with "inflation is transitory" and the monthly downward revisions of the "hot jobs market". Unfortunately, the artificial GDP that has been created with trillions in government debt spending doesn't support overall economic activity, just parts. This translates to the trucking industry in lower demand.

Depends on how many interest rate cuts we get in 2025. I don’t think the FED will cut rates as quick as they hiked them em. I’m thinking more like 2026 or 2027 we will see the economy ramp back up. I don’t think capacity is gonna get worse. Most people don’t want to touch trucking right now. Plus, all the negativity surrounding the industry as far as content creation goes.

I’m not a trucking company, I’m a hay farmer and until we have a real change in politics and the inflation is put into check and people wages are caught up to the place that they have deposable income and the economy starts to move all modes of transportation are going to be very slim margined. The trucking industry will have to cut operating expenses to the bone and take real control of how they spend their capital. I don’t see buying new equipment as a plus. I don’t care how you expense it. Your dollars are leaving your business. When this inflationary period ends there will be fewer trucking companies than you think especially public held companies. They face stockholders and they want their money not excuses of why there isn’t any. I small company that’s privately own can survive this economy a lots better than large fleets. There a time to spend money and there a time to not spend money. And now’s not the time to spend money. Keep repairing and operating on as little spending as possible. By the time big companies realize there’s a cash flow problem it’s generally to late. This is especially true if your used to having good profits at the end of the month. A small private owner operator is on a daily basis of monitoring his money situation where bigger companies may not be monitoring it on a daily basis. All modes of transportation face the same fact if people don’t have money to spend than nothing moving! I saw some real dramatic operations methods in the 80’s in the inland waterways industry. I would say that over half of the companies went bankrupt. Large ones and small ones and all for one reason there wasn’t any demand for anything to move. Barge traffic was about cut in half compared to the boom of the 70’s. Our problems today aren’t going to be and easy fix. It’s much bigger than the problems of 80’s.

If you continue telling truckers that , the market is paying x amount. Of dollars , then truckers are going to think that is what they deserve it . I don’t know where you come from with those numbers , because I would never move my reefer for that kind of money . Probably that is the reason I run only 3-4 k miles per month . Your gonna get my history from a CA guy, "Working Class Hero". It will take a year and more. There never ever should have been so many new authorities & huge increase in trucks and prices. When trucking does get moving again the gov will let 10's of thousands of illegal aliens drive which will drop the costs for trucking companies, and rates for the OO. The same thing happened in the 1970's, ( just a little different), with the advent of the Muslim Oil Embargo which drove up Oil, (same as what's happened now). At the time white construction workers were driven out of construction jobs and replaced with Mexicans. This is already happening in trucking. As You Can plainly see in CA. How did this happen! Chinese products eliminated US jobs and started mass trucking by Foreigner's. These Foreigner's brought on a FMCSA to yry and control them bc they're poor drivin. CORPORATIONS who control media, Media & government, painted the picture it was alright to except illegals in all the ways they did. R gov used r money to pay from Mexicans to have 6 kids, grow gangs, drain our resources, and on and on.

36,000 lost trucking companies only tells half the story. Whether a single person company or a multi driver company, some fraction of these drivers will go to another carrier and fill a truck that is parked there. So net - net, the loss of drivers isn't as big as one thinks.

I know a lot of people will find this difficult to accept but mood is a major factor in the health of economies, in other words it is not always the hard math that matters. On paper this nation is doomed, however a big mood swing to the positive can in theory change the trajectory.

@@wanderingfido Yes, it took me some time to fully accept this argument as well but I realized the foundations of it in observing Reagan. Reagan was not an especially good president (not entirely his fault as he was a product (like anyone else) the world he lived through. This is a very long argument to go through so I won't now, I will stick to the point instead. What Reagan really gave the nation (when it needed it) was a massive surge of optimism. That optimism is something that is more valuable than all the gold in the world. Optimism and confidence are staggeringly powerful, if you want to be a leader among leaders, you must bring those qualities to the table like nobody's business. We shall see if the next president is up to the task, I have my doubts but I also want to be very wrong in those doubts. I want us to get turned around. Our future depends on it.

Companies hiring isn't so great right now. I haven't seen it so slow in trucking as I do now but I've only been in it for 6 yrs. It might have something to do with the up coming change in administration in the white house. Depending on party in office it will affect how we do business. It affects trading across the big pond with goods who we buy fuel from also there's about 40 wars going on that require material and funding so there's alot going on

Excess capacity is the reason for low prices. Plus, how many retailors created their own agency? Marginal truckers need to get out of the business. They run on poorly maintained equipment and are a danger due to driver fatigue. The economy of the USA is great, inflation is the lowest in the world and unemployment is at full employment. Avoid the trolls who try to blame politics.

Im own a small fleet of trucks and i own a diesel repair shop. I saw thing for me starting to improve back in January and it's seen a steady increase till now. However this goes back months ago when I said a lot of people didn't know how to run thier buisnesses or understand their costs. I have been seeing companies going out of buisness at break neck speed near me and it all comes down to that fact. Major break downs are whats killing most of them. I have lost 3 O/O in the last week because they refuse to do a major repairs saying they didn't have the money and if they did it wasn't worth it anymore. I think we will see a change more rapidly and faster then most people predict. I think people are not calculating how many of these companies are living off loans and credit cards and that the repairs are whats gonna be there demise. Very few small companies and O/Os are watching there money the right way and I see it when the repair bills come due and stuff has to be spread across 5 cards or they tell me they can't afford it and so on.

The market is bad. The industry is bad. Fuel price high, tires price high and bad quality, parts high price poor quality, roads bad condition. Permits and taxes increased. Federal and State agencies are creating new regulations that cost money to comply. Commercial Premiums high. Diesel shops Labor 200 dollars pet hour. Towing services...😱😱😱 ridiculously high. Usury is everywhere. It is true; carriers are leaving, but shippers are leaving as well. At that pace, it will never recover. Example: coming out California 2.30 dry van, then no loads to come back. Is this an industry market pickup?
