We are through the fog and heading for our unload in Missouri. Then get a pretty good shock about how much they want to unload my trailer. Thank you for watching Music By Kinemaster

I caught up with this just now…. 3 years later. I notice a couple of things, Kurt: 1. The paint peeling from your hood, top driver’s side: what’s overcooking in there? 2. The reason Opie is so mellow, is because of your good attitude. 3. I would’ve LOVED to hear the “Navy language out-takes” from the broken trailer! Peace, and be safe!

Bubba I realize this was 2 months ago, and I don't know if this was after you had to buy those 2 new steers, but I couldn't help noticing that your steering wheel had a little vibration in it while you were driving! Also, I don't know if you've ever been down to Tampa Cold Storage, but back in the 80's I was going down there at least once a week, and they had independent lumpers, mostly young 18-25 year old guys, most of them were black who lived there in Tampa, and very very husky, and could load, or unload a trailer full of boxed meat stacked on the floor in nothing flat! I mean those guys were fast, and the going rate was only $50 per load, but I got with this one guy who was about 5'ft. 10"ins. tall, and built like "The Hulk!", and once he was done, he would even sweep out my trailer if it needed it, run the paperwork over to the office, get it signed, and bring it all back out to the truck to me, and he knew that I knew that he only charged $50, but after the first few times I started giving him an extra $50, and sometimes a $100, because I found out after talking to him a couple of times that he was married, to a beautiful little gal, and together they had 9 kids! Five boys, and 4 girls, and it was kinda funny, because he had dark skin, and his little wifey was light skinned! Well all the boys were dark skinned like their dad, and all the girls, the youngest one being only 6 months old were light skinned just like their mommy, and all just as beautiful! He even brought the whole gang up there one night, because I had gotten there late that time, and he introduced them all to me, and me to them! Well there was one time when my wife wanted to go with me on a run down to Tampa Cold Storage, and I had already told her about this guy, and his family, and it was just before Christmas, and unbeknown to me, she had stuffed the side boxes full of Christmas presents for all of them! Bubba you should have seen all those happy smiling wide-eyed faces when we got down there, and naturally there were hugs, and kisses all around, and of course his wife, and mine started bawling, and more hugs! Unfortunately though, that was the last run my wife was able to go on with me, because she started getting sick after that, and wasn't able to go on the long trips with me anymore, but that one run, and seeing all those beautiful smiling faces, it was one of the better times I had out on the road, and definitely one that I'll remember for a long long time! It was just another day in the life of a trucker, and that's why I envy you, cause you're still out there, and you still have the Warden, and Lil' Bud, and Tater Tot! God bless you Kurt, and the rest of the family!👨👩👦👦 🙏👍

We'll, lumpers are different now than when I was out there years ago. Back in the 90's, lumpers hung outside the wire, waiting for work. I'd have to have a com-check ready for the lumper. Why didn't the lumpers break down the pallets on the receiving floor. You could've been on your way.

The lumper thing is a liability issue. The larger company hires these small independent contractors and if a lumper gets injured (back, foot, etc.) they can on go after the small pockets of the independent contractor instead of the larger deep pocket warehouse company.

What is that high pitched whistle? When I drove OTR (very short time) lumpers were what I could hire to bring load to rear of trailer. (Most places would rather do entire unload with me staying out of way). But lazy drivers could hire guys standing around behind loading dock to do it. Back up nice to loading dock and get requests to back up others trailers. 1980s everyone wasn’t sue happy. I saw the white out of corner of my eye. My thought was. “Did he leave his doors open?” Hope that cover not too $$$

At 16 min. pay for lumpers. It is actually cheaper to pay a firm than to do all the admin work and hire your own. An additional benefit is it save a bunch of accounting work. There is NO bullshit to contend with for a slackass disgruntled worker. The worker dose not work for the warehouse. The instruction to the contractor is replace him. That is the end of the legal mess. Worker gets hurt on the job,NO i repeat NO insurance problems.

They use lumpers ( 3rd party contact or) so they have no payroll taxes, Labor cost and they don't have to pay benefits. @sandyg92283 жыл бұрын
That my friend is one of the great mysteries of life. It would be way to simple for the receiver to pay the lumper and deduct what they pay the lumper from their payment to the shipper for the product. On some high mountain somewhere a wise CPA knows the answer.

A big reason for the lumper service vs employees are taxes and insurance, another reason is the company can require a certain number of people on duty at any moment and not have to pay them to wait for work to do, the lumper service is also responsible for any damage to product and on top of all that, the lumper service has to pay the warehouse for the privilege to work there. It's a win-win for the warehouse they basically sit back and collect money and only have a small overhead of utilities and staff.
