Despite it being an absolutely degenerate card, VFD is one of the coolest cards from a design standpoint. True King of all Calamities is just an awesome boss monster name and its effect and artwork also just scream final boss monster.

Honestly I like true dracos as long as you limit them to their own cards. The hate for me came from the floodgates they run with them that I can't even fault people for cause they actually synergize well with their mechanics.

Technically the True Draco/King archetype debuted in The Dark Illusion, but the archetype that every casual player loves and remembers from the end of the Arc-V era came out in Maximum Crisis.

Could use "Niddhogg, Generaider Boss of Ice" it's also a level 9 Wyrm, and you get a summon negate out of it as long as you have Wyrms(or Generaiders) to power it

Trust me on This, as someone who plays Generaiders, Nidhogg is not nearly as useful as its effect makes it seem, since it only stops inherent summons, meaning that it doesn’t do nearly as much negating as you’d think and that is if you have enough monsters to sustain it.

@@the24thcolossusjustchillin39 Nidhodd is very good to stop Pendulum decks, and it can prevent some monster effects because it negates the summon like Mirrorjade. Nidhogg "kills" extra deck monster too because that monster becomes "not properly summoned" and they cannot summon it again from GY. It costs only 1 Generaider/Wyrm, at least the cost is very cheap too.

As a big true draco fan I often enjoy the games more where I don't flip a single floodgate, but at the same time I feel no guilt about doing so against a meta deck such as despia or watching a pend player go off with some degenerate electromite combo only to clear their field turn 2 and drop Domain on them. Funny enough, given how well True Draco works alongside Eldlich I feel True Draco vs Eldlich is one of the more enjoyable skill match ups with floodgates coming down on both sides and largely being ignored. One often overlooked card that works perfectly with true draco is the great revolution is over, given the bane of your existence is harpies feather duster. Also yes, to people saying this deck is frustrating it is because its very specifically an anti-meta pick, it doesn't do many of the things meta decks are built to shut down, like lots of on-field effects and in turn can thus run all the cards that shut those things down while at the same time having big enough bodies to cause issues, along with near endless recursion and the ability to consistently pull off several pops on the opponents turn. It completely laughs at Maxx C turning it into a dead card which in itself seems reason enough to run it.

The Monarchs Erupt is a good trap card for Dracos. Essentially a 1 sided skill drain. Very good if you don't run an extra deck.

Thanks for finally doing this archetype! As a legend of dragoon fan I always found myself leaning toward this archetype even with the general bad vibes coming from the community (with good reason mind) And actually as a returning Yu-Gi-Oh player, I was wondering if they were other dragoon style archetypes that might be fun to play? :3 if any of you guys have opinions on this I'd appericate it! Look into Dogmatika or Dragunity. Mermails kinda fit what you’re looking for too I guess. And they’re all at least somewhat viable decks, especially Dragunity. The Gaia/BLS stuff is sort of Dragoon-ish too but I think I’d play just about anything else before them despite how cool they are.

Nekroz might be up your alley. It's a Ritual archetype with four different non-Ritual monsters and the Ritual monsters are different forms of three of them which they assume by donning armour made from some powerful monster from their world (such as the dragons of the Ice Barrier).

7:41 But consider this Swordsoul combo: First bring out Baxia and Yazi, then have Yazi pop itself to bring out Mariamne who you can then destroy with Baxia to get Mo Ye, Tai A, or Ecclesia back, in addition to Mariamne searching Longyuan (or whatever else you want besides Tai A and Tenyi Spirit Nahata).

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it before in the comments but in either case, here's some fun trivia: "True King of all Calamities"' name in the OCG, "V.F.D." is a neat little reference to a very convoluted in real-life Christianity, the title of "Vicarius Filii Dei", latin for "Representative of the Son of God". The exact meaning and attributed position varied over time and faction but one thing in particular was quite the coincedence. When written in the roman latin alphabet, it would be: "Vicarivs Filii Dei" And as you might now, the romans had a number system in which certain letters had a certain numerical value attributed to them (I=1, V=5, X=10, etc.) with some being the first letter of the number's word, e.g. "Centum" = lat. "One-Hundred", therefore C=100. Now if you added up all the numbers given by the letters in "Vicarivs Filii Dei", you'd get 666 which is the "Number of the Beast" in the "Book of Revelations", a sign for the Devil's off-spring who they will convince the remaining humanity to pray to as a "false idol", in short the "Anti-Christ". And as Bonus, the first letters of the titles of the True Kings that end up summoning the True King of all Calamities are V for "Vanisher", F for "Fathomer" and D for "Disaster", forming V.F.D.

If you want to fix vfd just change the material to require non extra deck monster since it is easier to get level 9 monster from the extra deck then in getting them from the main deck Fuffal/frightfur can do it and level 9 synchro monster

Honestly with VFD banned from all official banlists i think an erata to his effect could be considered, maybe to make his summoning requirement be wyrm monsters cause it sucks that you can't play True Kings pure but then again i'm probably the only sucker that plays archetypes in their pure form

I play True Draco Eldlich. It contains the standard Eldlich engine and a few staples/floodgates because there is not much spaces if you combine both arctype. Eldlich can give a backup if your opponent wipes all cards in field and Eldlich can use spell/trap Draco for cost when he come back from GY. It's a big advantage because you can summon your big body and destroy 1 card in the same time, and if you have Draco spell, you can use their effect to draw. . In pure True Draco, Card of Demise and Anchamourfrite are a good support. Ancha can be an Upstart and tribute fodder.

I don't see why they shouldn't. Golem Dragon also has a similar effect if you have 2 of them on the field at the same time.

My absolute favorite thing I have ever done with True Draco is use them with Seal of Orichalcos. Is it good? No. Seal is a bad card. Objectively. But it *was* funny as hell to hear the surprise in my opponent's voice as they wonder aloud why in the hell I was playing that card. Meanwhile, I'm hamming it up and talking all villain like. Good times.

I actually built a Thunder Dragon deck that could bring out VFD and Colossus pretty consistently. It had seen a few tops in the OCG before Despia came out and that became the optimal way to play Thunder Dragons. I seem to recall looking into the True Kings with Swordsoul back when they first released on DB and they didn’t work together as well as you’d think but I don’t remember the reason.

The problem with Swoso/TD is that it can brick quite easily since you kinda need at least some TD backrow to make them earn their spot. SwoSo/True King was good until VFD got banned and the same with True Draco Kings which are all still viable, but the payoff isn't that great without VFD.

I used to play True Draco (mostly because I play every deck involving wyrms) but after seeing it so much in the Master Duel events I dropped the hell out of it. I never ran a super floodgate version of the deck...so I guess you can say a bad version, but seeing these people with Skill Drain, Gozen, Rivalry and etc.... really turned me off to the whole thing.

Eh, the support cards may cover both Dracos and Kings but thematically they are opposite forces, after all. In light of this, I like how Master Peace can be immune to VFD's floodgate effect as well as able to destroy him.

This. THIS is the archetype that pushes me over the edge. I cannot express how much I hate Dracos. It's not even a question of being able to beat them or not - I've beaten them by the past - but there is not a single drop of fun in that. It's always a slow and painful struggle. Maybe it's more because of the mountain of floodgates it's constantly played with? Or is it because that deck's ability to do card advantage is so incredible, even with a single card left it's never over? Weirdly enough, some would say Floo has replaced True Dracos, but I feel like I appreciate way more to play against the birds. Unlike with Floo, I've tried to play against TDs with a hundred different decks and I can't recall a single good experience. I've seen players using the most absurd cards like Performapal Five-Rainbow Magician, just to be sure to have at least 12 potential copies of Skill Drain in there. And let's not add the cherry on top that is Mystic Mine. This might seem like over the top, but this is my devil deck. Nowadays, when I face True Dracos at locals or wherever, I scoop the match, immediately. Because I don't want to subject myself to that. It doesn't seem worth it to me. True Kings, on the other hand, are pretty cool. They are interesting cards to experiment with in many archetypes - for example with the Cologne support, to have alternative ways to destroy Box of Friends, or with good stuff FIRE cards like Nine-Tailed Fox to generate easy tokens.

Same with me: I’ve almost never had a good experience with True Dracos. Not only does my card shop’s head judge run the deck, but I ran into it quite a few times on YGOPRO when it was still available, and overall, I’ve only beaten the deck…max 3 times.

Hell the Entirety of True Draco is still to this day one of the worst balanced archetypes in the game.
